Berks County Family Resource List From Early Learning Resource Center Region 13
Early Learning Resource Center Region 13, which covers Schuylkill and Berks counties, publishes a list of offices that families with young children often need, with the address, phone number and in most cases the website for each one. It is a starting place for a parent who knows help is needed but is not sure which agency handles what.
The Berks County part of the list includes:
- Pennsylvania 211, for help finding resources in your community. Dial 211 or text your zip code to 898-211 to talk with a resource specialist for free.
- United Way of Berks County, 25 N. 2nd Street, Suite 101, Reading PA, 19601, 610-685-4550. Early Learning Resource Center Region 13 is a partner agency and works with United Way to support families and child care providers.
- PA CareerLink Berks County, 1920 Kutztown Rd, Suite F, Reading, PA 19604, 610-988-1300. Open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm and Tuesday and Thursday 8:30am to 6:00pm. Online at careerlinkberks.com.
- Berks County Children & Youth, 633 Court St, Reading, PA 19601, 610-478-6700, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, closed on holidays.
- CHIP, the Children's Health Insurance Program, which provides low cost health coverage to children in families that earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid. You can apply for and enroll in Medicaid or CHIP any time of year, either by calling 1-800-318-2596 (TTY 1-855-889-4325) or by filling out an application through the Health Insurance Marketplace at healthcare.gov. If you qualify, coverage can start immediately.
- Berks County Assistance Office, 625 Cherry St, Reading, PA 19602, 610-736-4211, for public benefits.
- Berks County Head Start, through the Berks County Intermediate Unit, 1111 Commons Blvd, Reading, PA 19605, 610-987-8454, info@berksiu.org.
- Berks County WIC, at the Reading Center WIC Office, 501 Washington St, Reading, PA 19601, 610-373-5545, and the WIC Office Boyertown, 200 West Spring St, Boyertown, PA 19512, 610-367-6957.
