Early Head Start for Babies and Toddlers in Berks County

The Chester County Intermediate Unit runs Early Head Start, an early childhood program for children from birth to age three, with locations in Berks County as well as Chester, Lancaster, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. The Head Start programs provide family centered early childhood programming and social services to enrolled families.

The programming is described as being for children of working, low-income families. The page does not print an income figure or a household size table for Early Head Start, so call or email to ask whether your family qualifies.

Children in Early Head Start get educational services and screening services, along with meals, diapers and formula. The program is available Monday through Friday for children from birth to age three.

There is also a home-based option. Families in the home-based program receive a weekly 90 minute home visit and a socialization opportunity. Early Head Start also partners with existing childcare providers through Early Head Start - Childcare Partnerships, so some of the same benefits are offered in childcare settings families already know.
