Home Visits for Parents of Young Children From BCAP Family Center
The Family Center at Berks Community Action Program helps parents get their children ready for school and life. Family Development Specialists work with parents to understand the development stages their children go through, using the evidence-based Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum, and they work with families on parenting, child development, and other issues affecting a family's well-being.
It is for Berks County families who are expecting a baby or have children 5 years or younger.
The Family Center has 20 years of experience and provides information on well-baby care, infant developmental stages, using the Ages and Stages Developmental and Social Emotional Screening tools, and preschool and kindergarten readiness. Home visits happen two times a month, and there are monthly group activities. Intensive case management services are offered as needed, focusing on all areas of family growth, and specialists help families access other community-based services through the County Assistance Office. Families also get information and help connecting with other community resources when needed. The Family Center works with consumers involved in classroom activities in the GED program as well.
To get started, fill out the Family Center's intake form online at bcapberks.org/pat-request-for-services. The form asks for your name, date of birth, address, phone, email, whether you are pregnant and your due date, the names and ages of your children, whether you are enrolled in any other PAT or home visiting program, the reason for referral, the services you want, who referred you, and your primary language.
Berks Community Action Program's office is at 645 Penn Street, 3rd Floor, PO Box 22, Reading, PA 19601. For general questions, staff are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 610-376-6571, or by email at info@bcapberks.org; the office is closed for lunch daily from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. That number is a general contact, not an intake line.
