Help With IEP and 504 Plans for Berks County Students
The Greater Reading Mental Health Alliance has educational non-attorney advocates who work to make sure children receive a free, appropriate public education by building collaboration between parents and school districts.
This is for parents of a student in school. The intake form asks for the student's name and age, the grade and school district, and whether the student currently has an IEP or 504 Plan. To serve all families in Berks County, the Alliance limits how long it works with each family. Not all situations can be resolved by the advocates; they assess each situation and help you find appropriate services if they cannot assist you. You meet with the advocate to discuss your goals. The advocate will listen, provide information, support your decisions, attend meetings, and advocate for you and your child. After you submit the form, you will receive an email with information about the educational advocacy program including a list of documents that will be required. After the documents are received, your name will be placed on the waiting list. Someone will call you with any questions and to confirm your place on the list. If the program suits your needs and you agree to the terms, the Alliance will request relevant documents such as IEPs, FBAs and evaluations so work can start immediately.
