Project PEACE and Kids Against Pressure for Reading Students

CHOR Youth & Family Services runs two prevention programs for students in the Reading School District: Project PEACE, a youth-led group that works to curb youth violence and drug use, and Kids Against Pressure, an after-school program for younger students.

Project PEACE was formed in 2011 in response to the tragic loss of four Reading students. It is made up of middle and high school students, and it aims to curb youth violence and drug use by educating peers and promoting peace throughout the community. It is for students ages 10 to 18 in the Reading School District.

Kids Against Pressure, also called KAP, serves 3rd through 5th grade students in the Reading School District. It is an after-school program designed to help students build character, resolve conflicts, strengthen self-esteem, and develop positive social skills. It operates weekly in six classrooms and also offers a two-week, full-day summer camp each June.

Both programs came to CHOR through Community Prevention Partnership, which became aligned with The Children's Home of Reading Youth and Family Services in 2023. Those community programs serve more than 2,000 individuals throughout Berks and Schuylkill County.

To ask about either program, call 610-376-6988, the number listed for both Project PEACE and Kids Against Pressure.

The details published are brief. The page does not say how a student joins, which schools host the six KAP classrooms, what days or hours the groups meet, or whether there is any cost, so ask about all of that when you call.
