Wheelchair Van Rides to Medical Appointments From TowerDIRECT

TowerDIRECT, the medical transportation service of Tower Health, drives people who use a wheelchair or are confined to a bed to and from routine medical care in wheelchair vans or ambulances. This is the non-emergency side of TowerDIRECT, separate from calling 911.

Rides cover trips to and from doctor appointments, trips to and from a dialysis center, and transportation home after a hospital stay.

Who can ride is described a little differently in two places. One page says TowerDIRECT members who are bedridden or need a wheelchair can schedule rides in the specially equipped vehicles. Another says TowerDIRECT can provide routine medical transportation in a wheelchair van or ambulance billed at normal rates if you need a wheelchair to get around or your family member is confined to a bed. Ask when you call whether you need to be a member for the ride you want.

These rides are not free and are not included in the TowerDIRECT ambulance membership. They are billed at normal rates, and additional charges apply. People who hold a TowerDIRECT ambulance membership get discounted rates on this routine transportation. The price of a ride is not published, so ask about the cost when you schedule.

To schedule a ride, call 484-628-4493. Schedule seven days in advance to make sure a vehicle is available. The same number answers questions about the ambulance membership and about bills received after emergency medical transportation. The page does not list the hours when that line is answered, and it does not say what part of the county these routine rides serve, so ask whether your address and destination are covered.

If you are having a medical emergency, call 911 instead.
