VA Primary Care and Specialty Clinic for Veterans in Wyomissing

Your VA primary care provider works with you to plan all the care you need to stay healthy and well, including immunizations and vaccinations, and will also work with family members or caregivers who support you. Your primary care team can coordinate other services such as labs, blood work and immunizations, mental health care, radiology and cancer screenings, women's health care, nutrition, weight and smoke cessation counseling, and social services.

Beyond primary care, the clinic offers addiction and substance use care, dermatology, diabetes care, laboratory and pathology, mental health care, psychiatry, psychology, PTSD care, physical therapy, occupational therapy and kinesiotherapy, pharmacy, telehealth, whole health, MOVE! weight management, recreation and creative arts therapy, women Veteran care, and help from a My HealtheVet coordinator.

Some of what the specialty services include:

• Dermatology treats skin, hair and nail conditions, including skin cancer screening, biopsy and treatment of abnormal moles and lesions, and teledermatology for quick access to expert opinions.
• Diabetes care covers type 1 and type 2 diabetes, with self-management education and support classes, insulin therapy and blood-glucose meter training, and sick-day management, nutrition advice and cooking classes.
• The laboratory offers blood, urine and other fluid testing, testing for infectious diseases, and cytopathology and surgical pathology.
• MOVE! is a weight-management program with weight loss support groups, healthy eating tips and cooking classes, and behavioral change strategies.
• The My HealtheVet coordinator can help you start using the VA online portal to manage appointments and records, refill prescriptions, view lab and test results, and message your health care team.
• The pharmacy fills new prescriptions only in person at the pharmacy window. You can refill current prescriptions online at MyHealtheVet, by phone through the automated refill service (you need your Social Security number and prescription number), or by mail using the refill request slips that come with each prescription, mailed at least 14 days before you need a new supply.

Referral and appointment rules are different for each service, so check the one you need.

• Primary care: no referral required. You can visit the office with or without an appointment, and virtual visits are by appointment only.
• Mental health care, psychiatry, psychology and PTSD care: a referral is required, and you may visit the office with or without an appointment or call at your convenience. For mental health care, all VA health care facilities offer same-day help, and you may qualify even without enrolling in VA health care.
• Addiction and substance use care and laboratory: a referral is required, and you may visit with or without an appointment.
• Dermatology, diabetes care, pharmacy, telehealth, and physical, occupational and kinesiotherapy: by appointment only and a referral is required.
• MOVE! weight management, whole health and women Veteran care: by appointment only, but no referral is required.
• My HealtheVet coordinator: with or without an appointment, no referral required.

Facility hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed Saturday and Sunday. Hours may vary for different services: primary care, diabetes care, pharmacy, psychiatry, psychology, PTSD care, telehealth and the My HealtheVet coordinator run 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Recreation and creative arts therapy, held in the Berks VA Clinic Group Room, is open only Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and can be reached at 717-272-6621, ext. 4291.

The clinic has wheelchairs available in the building, and parking is listed as free.

If you need a ride to an appointment, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) vans provide transportation to and from VA health facilities for scheduled medical appointments at 717-272-6621, ext. 6022. Special Mode Transportation, meaning wheelchair van or ambulance level transport, is available when clinically justified by a VA provider, at 717-272-6621, ext. 5767. Uber Health Connect door to door service is available if you meet beneficiary travel eligibility criteria and can safely get in and out of a vehicle, at 717-272-6621, ext. 6022. Beneficiary travel benefits include round-trip transportation from your home to the medical center, mileage reimbursement, or special mode transport.

There is no lodging at the clinic.
