Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 131 Meetings in Reading
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 131 is a Berks County veterans chapter that meets once a month in Reading and posts what is going on for veterans in the county. Its website was made to be a place where veterans of all branches of the military, Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard, can get information on what is going on in the Berks County Pennsylvania area.
The chapter says the site is open to veterans, wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, children, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends of any veteran, living or deceased, and that everyone no matter what is welcome.
Chapter 131 meets the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Reading Regional Airport, 2501 Bernville Road, Reading, PA 19605. A social gathering starts at 1:00 pm and the VVA meeting starts at 2:00 pm. The Associate Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA) meeting is at 1:00, with more about joining AVVA under the AVVA tab at vietnamveterans131.com. The chapter does not publish dues or any other cost of attending a meeting.
The chapter's 2026 calendar lists a VVA meeting on November 12. The Chapter 131 Christmas party is December 10 in the chapter's meeting room at the Reading Airport, with doors open at 11:30 and lunch served at 12:30 pm; that party costs $13 for members and $25 for others and must be paid prior to the event.
The calendar also lists other veteran events in and near the county, including a Veterans Appreciation Dinner Dance at Wilson High School on November 7 with tickets at $20 a person, the Combined Veterans Council ceremony at Veterans Grove in Reading City Park at 11:00 on November 11, and Wreaths Across America at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetary on December 19. More people are needed for the Chapter 131 color guard for parades; anyone interested is asked to contact Dave Ciscon.
Through the year the chapter holds various events to raise funds, and those funds are used to support veterans and veteran activities in Berks County and beyond rather than to benefit the chapter. The chapter describes the help it wants to give veterans and their families as anything from holding a hand in a time of need, to a ride to a doctor's appointment, to listening and pointing someone in the right direction.
