Certified Medical Assistant

Part-time position in a cosmetic, medical and surgical dermatology practice. The Medical Assistant assists the Board Certified Dermatologist with patient care: escorting patients to the examination room; obtaining, updating and documenting complete medical history, medications, and patient issues and concerns; setting up the examination room according to the scheduled procedure; assisting with medical, cosmetic and surgical examinations and treatments performed in the office as well as with post-treatment care; and administering topical medications and injections as ordered by the Dermatologist. Because the practice is heavily patient-education oriented, the assistant helps educate patients about the nature of their skin, hair and nail issues and about a wide range of treatment modalities, physician-strength products, outcomes and expectations. The role also involves communicating with patients, families and third parties related to patient care, including other medical practitioners, pharmacies, laboratories and insurance providers. Requirements: high school diploma required and college degree preferred; certification as a Medical Assistant; five years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office covering the duties described; experience in dermatology/skin care is a plus but not required; detail oriented and well organized; high-tech skills not required, but comfortable using a computer, telephone, fax machine, digital camera and other office equipment.
