About the program
The Don't Read This Book Club meets at Brandywine Community Library in Topton for an open discussion of one title at a time. The pick for this meeting is More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera. Read the book first, then come ready to talk about it with the group.
Silvera's debut novel is set during a near-future summer in the Bronx. Sixteen-year-old Aaron Soto is working his way back toward happiness in the months after his father's suicide, with support from his girlfriend Genevieve and his overworked mom. When he grows close to a new friend named Thomas, the feelings that follow stir tension with the people around him, and Aaron starts considering the Leteo Institute's memory-alteration procedure, even if it means forgetting who he is. The story deals with grief, self-harm and identity, so readers should know that going in.
The group is open to teens and adults, and there is no charge to take part. Copies can be asked about at the library, which can also answer questions about joining. Bring your thoughts on the book and any questions you want to raise.
