About the workshop
This beginner-level workshop at the Daniel Boone Homestead looks at how candles were made in early America. Led by Greg and Peggy Geesaman of Heritage Art and Craft Studio, participants work with natural beeswax and try hand dipping, the traditional method, to finish a double wick beeswax candle of their own.
Participants also make a small cinnamon scented display ornament pressed from a stoneware cookie mold, using a technique like the one German Lebkuchen bakers used centuries ago. Mold designs vary. Colonial period interpreters give a short presentation during the class on early American living and the history of candle making in the eighteenth century.
All supplies are included, so you just need to show up ready to work with your hands. The workshop is open to all ages when a child is accompanied by an adult, which makes it a good fit for families, adults and scout groups. Registration is required and space is limited.
