Young artists work with clay in the handbuilding studio at GoggleWorks and learn how handbuilt pottery comes together. The class covers basic techniques: pinching, building with coils, and soft slab construction. Each session starts with some ceramic vocabulary, a look at pictures of finished work using that day's technique, and a short project demonstration.
This class is open to all skill levels, so no clay experience is needed. It meets on Thursday evenings with instructor Karen Adam in the Ceramics Auxiliary Classroom 301 on the third floor of GoggleWorks. Expect messy hands and clothes that may pick up clay dust. The studio handles the cleanup, and students take their finished pieces home.
GoggleWorks is at 201 Washington Street in Reading, and the campus is fully accessible. Sign up through the class page on the GoggleWorks website. Scholarships are available, and you can add a note during registration if there is anything that would help make the class a good experience.
