Emergency Dentist in Berks County: Where to Go After Hours
The Berks dental practices whose own websites describe after-hours and same-day emergency care, what the ADA says to do first, the signs that mean the emergency room, the two hospitals and health centers, and the two published Berks prices for a problem exam.

If you've got a broken tooth or a toothache after hours, call your own dentist first, even if the office is closed, because many practices keep room in the day for emergencies and some answer a line at night. If you don't have a dentist, yes, there are emergency dentists in Reading and across Berks County: seven practices describe an after-hours, on-call or emergency line on their own websites, and the list below gives you each one in its own words. To see every practice in one place, start with the dentists in Berks County.
Mayo Clinic's advice: if you have a fever and swelling in your face and you can't reach your dentist, go to an emergency room. Go to the emergency room, too, if you have trouble breathing or swallowing; those can mean an infected tooth has spread into the jaw, throat or neck. Cleveland Clinic draws its line differently: the nearest emergency room for an infected tooth with a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, confusion, difficulty swallowing, a fast heart rate, or facial swelling. Where the two differ, nothing on this page can judge your own mouth; your dentist is where a question about your own mouth goes.
Is there an emergency dentist in Reading, PA?
Yes, and the first one to try is whoever already has your chart. The American Dental Association's advice is to call your dentist as soon as you can and describe the problem in detail, because most dentists hold time in their daily schedule for emergency patients.
If you're between dentists, the practices below are the ones whose own websites describe after-hours or on-call care. Call before you drive; each name links to its listing, where the phone number is.
- Revere Dental Associates, Reading: a doctor is available for emergencies seven days a week, including late at night, and new patients are welcome on an emergency basis; the office itself is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9 to 5.
- Penn's Commons Dental Group, Wyomissing: seen as soon as possible during office hours; after hours, call the office and follow the instructions, and the call is returned. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 to 5:30, Wednesday 8 to 2.
- Pediatric Dentistry of Reading, Reading: a dentist answers the after-hours emergency line, with a doctor on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Monday to Friday 8 to 5.
- Children's Dental Health of Wyomissing, Wyomissing: same-day emergency appointments for children whenever possible, and an on-call dentist after hours. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8 to 5, Tuesday 8 to 2.
- Mangat Family Dentistry, Womelsdorf: same-day appointments when able, and an on-call number for after-hours emergencies.
- Angstadt Family Dental, Wyomissing: its doctors make time on weekends or late at night for patients in need, existing and new. Its Wyomissing office is open Monday and Tuesday 8 to 8 and Thursday 8:30 to 5; its other offices are outside Berks.
- American Dental Solutions, six Berks offices (Wyomissing, Kenhorst, Exeter, Muhlenberg Township, Sinking Spring and Hamburg): call during business hours to be seen promptly; a 24-hour on-call service, evening hours at every office, Saturdays by appointment.
What counts as a dental emergency?
The American Dental Association treats these six situations as dental emergencies and says what to do on the way to the dentist.
- A knocked-out permanent tooth. Keep it moist. Put it back in the socket without touching the root if you can, or hold it between your cheek and gums or in milk, and get to the dentist right away.
- A cracked tooth. Rinse with warm water and put a cold compress on your face.
- A toothache. Rinse with warm water and gently floss out anything caught between the teeth.
- A bitten tongue or lip. Clean it gently and use a cold compress. If the bleeding won't stop, go to the dentist or the emergency room.
- A jaw you think is broken. Cold compresses, and the dentist or a hospital emergency room immediately.
- Something stuck between your teeth. Floss gently, and never use anything sharp.
Can I get a same-day dentist appointment in Reading?
Often, yes. Fourteen Berks practices use same-day wording on their own websites, and about half of them add a condition, such as when a slot is open.
- Bear Valley Dental Care, Boyertown: reserves spots through the day for same-day care.
- Boulevard Dental Associates, Reading: same-day emergency appointments available.
- Fleetwood Dental, Fleetwood: same-day appointments to get you out of pain.
- Kutztown Dental Center, Kutztown: makes it a priority to see you the same day.
- Compass Dental, Wyomissing: tries to see all emergency patients the same day they call.
- Dr. Michael D. Latourelle, DMD, Wyomissing: a same-day appointment for a cracked, chipped or knocked-out tooth.
- Affordable Dental Solutions, Reading: emergency appointments for new and existing patients.
- Merit Dental, Sinking Spring: in many instances the same day.
- Compassion Endodontics, West Lawn: a root canal specialist; same-day and emergency appointments.
- Reading Dental Studio, Wyomissing: same-day appointments.
- Preventive Dental, Reading: same-day and next-day spots usually available.
- Aspen Dental, Wyomissing: same-day appointments and walk-ins when slots are open; call first.
- Children's Dental Health of Wyomissing and Mangat Family Dentistry, above.
Two community health centers, nonprofit clinics, take emergency calls too. Berks Community Health Center's dental clinic at 1110 Rockland Street in Reading takes appointments at 484-772-1200, is open weekdays 8 to 6, and says an on-call provider can be reached through its main number, 610-988-4838, when it's closed. Community Health and Dental Care's Barto office posts evening and Saturday hours and asks patients to call 610-326-9460 after hours for an on-call provider. Both take Medical Assistance, Pennsylvania's Medicaid program, and both have an income-based discount you apply for at the center.
When should I go to the emergency room for a tooth?
Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic named the signs: fever with facial swelling, trouble breathing or swallowing, confusion, a fast heart rate. The American Dental Association's line is blunter: if the accident happens when your dental office isn't open, go to your local emergency room. The after-hours lines above are how you reach a dentist first; when none of them answers, that's the situation the ADA means. The ADA's six situations are injuries and toothaches; an infection that comes on by itself is what the two clinics' signs are for. The ADA also says an emergency room can relieve pain and treat infection, but few hospitals have a dentist on staff, so most can't do the dental work itself, and you'll still need the dentist afterward.
Reading Hospital's emergency room, at 420 South 5th Avenue in West Reading, is open around the clock, and a nurse sorts patients as they arrive so the sickest are seen first. Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center is at 2500 Bernville Road in Reading. The emergency services guide for Berks County covers both. Urgent care centers list what they treat on their websites (coughs, cuts, ear infections, minor fractures), and teeth aren't on them, so ask before you drive; each one's number is on our list of urgent care centers in Berks County.
What does an emergency dental visit cost?
There's no standard price for an emergency exam, so ask what the exam costs when you call, and expect the treatment itself (a filling, an extraction, a root canal) to be quoted separately. If you have dental insurance, ask whether the office takes your plan on the same call. Only two Berks practices print a price for an exam of a problem tooth: as of October 2026, Bear Valley Dental Care in Boyertown offers a complimentary emergency exam and X-ray to new patients without dental insurance, and Preventive Dental in Reading charges a flat $150 for an exam of the problem with X-rays.
Membership plans are a yearly or monthly fee paid straight to the office for a set of visits, and two local ones include an emergency exam or visit: Green Hills Dental in Reading at $300 a year for an adult and $225 for a child, and Malloy & Devine in Wyomissing at $30 a month for an adult plus a $99 start fee. The American Dental Association puts the average emergency room dental visit without a hospital stay at about $749, against $90 to $200 for a visit to a dentist's office.
If you're on Medical Assistance, emergency services for pain and symptoms are covered for adults, and a child on it is covered for all medically necessary dental care. No copayment is charged during an emergency, as the provider judges it. The state's line at 1-800-537-8862, weekdays 8 to 4:30, helps you find a dentist who takes it. Questions people ask.
Is there a weekend dentist in Berks County?
A few practices post Saturday hours, nearly all by appointment only, so call first. Four practices in the after-hours list mention weekends or nights: Revere Dental Associates, Angstadt Family Dental, American Dental Solutions and, for children, Pediatric Dentistry of Reading. The Barto health center posts Saturday hours of 8 to 3. For everything else, there's the weekend services guide.
Is there a Boyertown emergency dentist?
Bear Valley Dental Care in Boyertown says it reserves spots through the day for same-day care. The Barto office of Community Health and Dental Care on Route 100 North is nearby, with the after-hours line above.
My child knocked out a tooth after hours, who do I call?
Two children's practices describe an on-call dentist after hours: Pediatric Dentistry of Reading says a dentist answers its after-hours emergency line and a doctor is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and Children's Dental Health of Wyomissing says it has an on-call dentist for urgent needs after hours. For a knocked-out baby tooth, the ADA's advice differs from the permanent-tooth steps above: find the tooth, keep it moist and get to a dentist, who can see whether the whole tooth came out and whether it goes back in. If your child doesn't have a dentist yet, start with your child's first dentist visit in Berks County.
The order: your own dentist first, the after-hours list second, and the emergency room for the signs Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic named. Make the call now rather than at 2 a.m., and if you're starting from scratch, start with the dentists in Berks County.
