Holiday Dog Boarding in Berks County: Costs and When to Book
Berks kennels that print a rate charge about $30 to $80 a night for one dog; the holiday pressure is deposits, minimum stays and closed lobbies, not higher rates. The vaccines kennels ask to see, how far ahead the shots must be given, checkout rules, what to pack, and the state license check.

If you're boarding one dog at one of the nine Berks kennels in the table below, plan on about $30 to $80 a night, and most land between $40 and $60. The price moves with the room you pick or how much play time comes with it; none of these nightly rates is set by the dog's weight. None of them prints a higher nightly rate for the holidays; where you'll feel Thanksgiving and Christmas is in the deposit, the minimum stay, and a lobby that's closed on the day.
So the job this week is simple: pick two or three kennels from the county boarding and kennels page, call them, and get the vaccine paperwork moving at the same time.
How much does dog boarding cost in Berks County?
A four-night Thanksgiving stay, Wednesday to Sunday, comes to roughly $120 to $320 before add-ons.
A kennel that isn't in the table may still board, so it's worth a call anyway.
Nine Berks kennels and the rates and rules each prints on its own site, as of October 2026. Prices are for one dog, and some kennels set tiers. Bordetella is the kennel cough shot, distemper is the combination shot that also covers parvo, and a temperament evaluation is a short free visit where staff see how the dog does around other dogs.

Do kennels charge more at Thanksgiving and Christmas?
None of the nine prints a higher nightly rate for the holidays; at five of them the holiday shows up in the rules instead.
One kennel requires a three-night minimum and a 50 percent deposit for a week on either side of Thanksgiving and Christmas, closes its office on the holiday itself, and charges $100 per pet for a drop-off or pickup that day. Another takes a non-refundable two-night deposit on any stay over $300 and keeps half the invoice if you cancel within 72 hours of a major holiday. Others close their lobbies or offices on the holiday itself, so there's no pickup or drop-off that day.
Ask about the deposit and the cancellation window before you give a card number over the phone. Cloud Nine Pet Retreat, on 30 acres along Hunter Forge Road with a creek and trails, is the kennel with the three-night holiday minimum.
How early should you book, and what does a first stay take?
Call this week. Ridgewood says its summer months and holidays fill up very fast.
Three Berks kennels require a free temperament evaluation, a short visit where staff see how the dog does around other dogs. Two kennels prefer a few days of daycare first, and several require a dog over six months to be spayed or neutered. Diggity Dawg Daycare boards in Wernersville and in Wyomissing and includes daytime group play in every stay, which is why it wants the temperament test first.
If every kennel is full, in-home sitters in Berks run about $18 to $38 a visit, and one sitter's live-in rate starts at $125 a night. Ask whether a holiday surcharge applies; the county pet sitters page lists them.
What vaccines does a kennel need to see?
Your vet sets your dog's vaccine schedule; what follows is what kennels ask to see at the door. Every kennel in the table that prints a list requires three things: rabies, the distemper-parvo combination shot, and Bordetella, which is the kennel cough shot. Dog flu is required at four of them and recommended at one, and one also wants a negative fecal test.
A boarding kennel in Pennsylvania has to see proof of a current rabies vaccination when your dog comes in, and the kennels that say what counts ask for the vet's certificate, not the tag. One kennel accepts only vaccines given by a licensed veterinarian.
How far before check-in do the shots have to be done?
Kennels set their own lead times. One requires every vaccine given at least two weeks before check-in and won't admit a dog that's been to the vet for any reason in the two weeks before. Another wants vaccines at least seven days before the stay, and another won't take a dog within seven days of a vet visit.
The shots don't all run on the same clock, and which form your dog gets is the vet's call. The nose-drop or oral kennel cough vaccine is a single dose. The injectable kind is two shots two to four weeks apart, and dog flu is also two doses two to four weeks apart.
So if the vet starts a two-dose series, the second dose alone is two to four weeks out, and the kennel's lead time sits on top of that: three to six weeks from the first shot to check-in, depending on whether the kennel wants shots seven days or two weeks ahead.
What else do you need to sort out before drop-off?
Four quick things, in the order you'll hit them:
- The license check. Pennsylvania licenses and inspects boarding kennels, and the state Department of Agriculture's public kennel inspection search lets you look up a kennel's license and inspection reports by county.
- The pickup window. Checkout is a morning event, 11 a.m. at two kennels and noon at several, and several charge another night or day for an afternoon pickup. Weekend and holiday windows run about an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening at two kennels, so ask what a missed pickup window costs.
- The bag. Ask each kennel what to bring: Diggity Dawg wants pre-measured food, medications in their bottles with instructions, and a labeled bed or blanket, and supplies the bowls; Leesport asks you to leave bedding at home. For a groom before the trip, start with the best dog groomers in Berks County.
- The tour questions. The boarding section of the pet services guide lists what to ask when you visit: how much time dogs spend outside their kennels, how they're grouped for play, what happens if a dog gets sick, and whether you can bring your own food.
Tonight, pick two or three kennels from the county boarding and kennels page. Then call about the deposit, the minimum stay and the pickup window, and call the vet with the kennel's list.
Frequently asked questions about holiday dog boarding in Berks County.
Do Berks kennels charge more on holidays?
None of the nine prints a higher nightly rate for the holidays. What changes is the deposit, the minimum stay, the cancellation window and the office hours on the holiday itself.
Does the kennel need the rabies certificate or just the tag?
The certificate, at the kennels that say what counts: Peacock Bridge, Leesport and Cloud Nine ask for it by name. State law requires a boarding kennel to see proof of a current rabies vaccination when the dog enters.
How long before boarding does the kennel cough shot have to be given?
The Berks kennels that set a lead time ask for vaccines seven days to two weeks before check-in, and if your vet starts a two-dose vaccine, it needs two to four weeks between its doses on top of that.
What time do you have to pick up the dog?
In the morning, as a rule: 11 a.m. at two Berks kennels and noon at several, with an afternoon pickup charged as another night or day at several.
