Whether you’re a long-haul driver, local hauler, or supply chain manager, you’ll find DS Smith’s Reading facility ready to support your delivery and pickup requirements with professionalism and reliability.

Seamless Navigation & Safe Yard Layout

Finding your way around a large manufacturing plant can be a challenge, and DS Smith’s Reading site acknowledges that. While on-site signage and GPS directions may occasionally send you circling the block, our community of drivers has compiled detailed, turn-by-turn tips to help you find the correct entrance swiftly. One customer quipped, “First off, double-check your GPS because it will probably bring you to the car entrance … you don’t want to be driving around the block, lol.” Once you’re in, you’ll appreciate the wide-open yard, designed to give rigs plenty of room to maneuver. Drivers often comment, “A lot of room for maneuver … once you’re in, open area, easy to maneuver.”

Safety is a top priority. Some docks under the facility roof are tighter, with pipes, poles, and cable structures just inches from your trailer. DS Smith continuously evaluates these areas to enhance clearance and visibility. In the meantime, our experienced dock managers guide you to the best available door while maintaining strict safety standards.

Efficiency at Check-In and the Dock

Time is money in transportation, and DS Smith understands that. Check-in and check-out experiences vary—some drivers breeze through in under an hour, while others can face waits extending to several hours. One driver noted, “Quick check-in process and loading time,” whereas another experienced delays: “Waited for a 9 am appointment and now it’s 8 minutes shy of 3 pm.” To minimize hold-up, DS Smith is investing in additional staffing and digital appointment reminders.

Once you secure a dock door, you’ll witness why DS Smith earns accolades for loading and unloading speed. Multiple drivers praise the rapid turnaround: “Very fast loading and unloading. I had 13 trucks in front but got loaded within 1.5 hours,” and “FAST loading, rolls secured with anti-slip mats.” Even with a busy schedule, our team moves your freight on or off the trailer in mere minutes, allowing you to get back on the road and meet your next deadline.

Professional, Friendly Staff & Unique Amenities

At DS Smith, professionalism and courtesy go hand in hand. Many drivers single out our shipping office team for exceptional service: “Shipping office guys are super nice,” and “Front office—awesome!” Their friendly demeanor and clear communication set the tone for a smooth visit. While isolated incidents of less-than-polite interactions have been reported, we continuously train our staff to ensure every driver feels respected and welcomed.

In addition to courteous service, DS Smith offers an uncommon convenience that drivers value: on-site broom and sweeping supplies. One happy customer shared, “They have a broom inside and let you sweep your trailer out right onto their floor.” This small but thoughtful touch helps drivers maintain equipment cleanliness without extra hassle.

Clear Administrative Requirements

Smooth operations at our facility rely on well-defined administrative procedures. DS Smith applies clear rules regarding paperwork, health and safety measures, trailer specifications, and tandem positioning. To streamline your visit, please:

• Bring a mask (health protocols are enforced)
• Use trailers 1998 model year or newer
• Slide tandems to the rear when parking or docking
• Scale in using the barcode on your Bill of Lading (BOL)
• Deposit your signed BOL and scale ticket in the designated mailbox

While these guidelines require preparation, they ensure swift check-ins, compliance with safety regulations, and minimal confusion for all parties involved. Drivers appreciate knowing exactly what to expect.
