What to do at Laurel Run Recreational Park

  • Walk the trails along Laurel Run creek
  • Playground
  • Athletic fields
  • Picnic areas and a pavilion
  • Bring a leashed dog on the creekside areas

Laurel Run Park is a Muhlenberg Township park along Laurel Run, the creek that runs through the township north of Reading. The River Road entrance at 3048 River Road is the section closest to the Schuylkill. The township's parks department owns and maintains it as part of a system of parks and greenways strung along the creek.

We use it as a neighborhood park: athletic fields, a playground, and walking trails through the floodplain. The park designers kept the creek corridor open, so the trails follow the water and tie into the greenway along Laurel Run.

Township parks are open from 7 am to sunset, and dogs are welcome on a leash in the areas along Laurel Run as long as they stay off the fields and courts.

A mix of covered and uncovered picnic areas lets groups choose sun-drenched lawns or cool, dappled shade beneath towering trees. Recreation, Sports, and Trails

Active visitors will find plenty to do at Laurel Run. Two beach volleyball courts border a wide, open field—ideal for both casual bump-set-spike sessions and organized tournaments. When winter arrives, those gently sloping hills transform into sledding runs, eliciting laughter from kids and adults alike. For walkers and joggers, the park’s network of trails offers varied terrain from creekside rambles to upland loops. While the scenery remains rewarding, some guests note that the full loop trail could benefit from clearer signage to guide first-time explorers. Regardless, the combination of open fields and wooded pathways ensures each outing feels fresh and invigorating.

Maintenance, Cleanliness, and Guest Comfort

Park administrators understand that a pristine environment enhances every visitor’s experience. Most guests praise the grounds for being well-kept, with trimmed grass, regularly emptied trash receptacles, and neat picnic areas. On occasion, a few cobwebs in the pavilion or an errant cluster of bugs serves as a gentle reminder of the park’s natural setting—a minor trade-off for so much beauty. Overall, the commitment to cleanliness and responsiveness to guest feedback ensures Laurel Run remains a welcoming place for all ages.
