One by One Cat Rescue

One by One Cat Rescue is a non-profit animal shelter and service establishment dedicated to finding loving homes for every cat in its care. Though the organization does not operate a traditional storefront location, it serves adopters through a convenient, appointment-based system that brings cats and people together in a stress-free, personalized environment. As a fully volunteer-run initiative, One by One Cat Rescue combines expert animal welfare practices with deep compassion to ensure each feline friend thrives from their very first interaction.

Personalized Adoption Matching

At the heart of One by One Cat Rescue’s mission is a one-on-one adoption experience. Founder-volunteers Lori and Mike lead the way, getting to know every cat’s quirks, personality traits, and life story. This dedication shines through in the way they match cats with adopters: “Lori goes above and beyond to make sure the right cats go to the right homes,” one grateful pet parent shared. By carefully listening to each family’s lifestyle, preferences, and long-term expectations, the team ensures that playful kittens, mellow seniors, and shy rescues alike find the households where they’ll flourish.

Compassionate Staff and Community

Compassion is woven into every aspect of daily life at One by One Cat Rescue. From the moment cats arrive—often after difficult circumstances—volunteers offer gentle handling, socialization, and veterinary care. Visitors repeatedly praise the warmth and devotion of the team: “The kitties at One by One are so lucky to have such loving & compassionate humans caring for them!” This deep care doesn’t end at feeding time; it extends to ongoing health checks, enrichment activities, and the emotional support that helps each cat blossom.

Cage-Free, Stress-Free Atmosphere

Unlike traditional shelters with rows of kennels, One by One Cat Rescue operates a mostly cage-free environment (with only quarantined cats temporarily isolated for health and safety). Adopters are invited into an open, home-like space where they can sit, play, and interact freely. This setup benefits cats by reducing stress and encouraging natural behaviors, and it benefits families by offering authentic, unguarded moments to connect. “You can sit and talk, play and interact with the cats,” notes a visitor, highlighting the relaxed vibe that leads to more successful, lasting adoptions.

Rigorous Adoption Vetting

While the team’s approach is warm and welcoming, One by One Cat Rescue maintains high standards to ensure lifelong, responsible homes. Prospective adopters complete an application, engage in a candid interview, and receive guidance on cat care essentials. “Premium cats adopted to well vetted people,” one review observes, underscoring the organization’s commitment to matching readiness and resources with feline needs. This thorough vetting process not only safeguards the cats’ welfare but also gives adopters confidence that they’re joining a community of committed, conscientious pet owners.

Appointment-Only Visits & Accessibility

To preserve the sanctuary-like atmosphere and maximize one-on-one time with each visitor, One by One Cat Rescue operates strictly by appointment. While some admirers wish for more open hours—“They’re by appointment only—sure wish they'd be open 1 day a week or 1 day a month”—this model ensures individualized attention, a calm environment, and the highest standard of care. The team continually evaluates ways to expand accessibility, exploring additional scheduling slots and pop-up adoption events to reach more families without compromising the personalized experience.

Commitment to Better Communication

One area where the organization is actively growing is its responsiveness to inquiries. The team recognizes that unanswered calls or delayed emails can be a source of frustration; prospective adopters want clarity, and every inquiry matters. To address this, One by One Cat Rescue is bolstering its volunteer communications squad—ensuring if you leave a message or drop an email, you’ll hear back promptly, even if it’s just to say “No” or to offer an alternative solution. This renewed emphasis on follow-up reflects the rescue’s promise to treat adopters and supporters with the same respect and attentiveness given to their furry residents.
