What to do at Rustic Park

  • Picnic at one of four pavilions with grills, water, and electric
  • Sit by Hay Creek, a Class A trout stream section, and watch the anglers
  • Cross the ADA foot bridge into the Birdsboro Waters trails and climbing areas
  • Pitch horseshoes and use the swings noted in the borough rules
  • Book a pavilion for a birthday party, reunion, or small wedding

Rustic Park is the Borough of Birdsboro's main park, set along Hay Creek on Haycreek Road at the south edge of town. The borough runs it as a picnic ground: four rentable pavilions, two of them with fireplaces, each with picnic tables, charcoal grills, water, and electric service, plus two restroom buildings. Pavilion rentals run April through October and are booked through Borough Hall.

We come here for picnics, birthday parties, reunions, and the creek. A six foot wide ADA foot bridge installed in fall 2021 links the park to the 1,800 acre Birdsboro Waters watershed across Hay Creek, so the park doubles as the walk-in gateway to those trails, the climbing areas, and trout fishing on the creek.

The borough's rules for the picnic area call for pets on a leash, no swimming in the creek, no alcohol without a permit, and bicycles allowed in the picnic area. Rental permits cover the park from 7:00 AM until dark, with everyone out by 9:30 PM.

Winding through varied terrain and offering rewarding vantage points, these trails are meticulously maintained to accommodate all skill levels. Adventurers rave about the challenging ascents, smooth singletrack sections, and breathtaking panoramic views at higher elevations. From an early morning jog to an afternoon mountain biking expedition, the park’s trails consistently deliver both excitement and rejuvenation, making Rustic Park a true tourist attraction for outdoor lovers.

Fishing & Creekside Relaxation

Anglers and nature enthusiasts flock to Hay Creek, famed for its reliably stocked trout and native brown trout runs. Easy access points and shallow wading areas make it simple to cast a line, whether you’re a seasoned fisherman or introducing a youngster to the joys of fly fishing. Even when the water level rises, dedicated anglers report that “the fish were still hitting—very nice river if you have waders and just want to relax.” With seasonal fishing events and an abundance of shady spots to take a break, Rustic Park offers a serene backdrop for both active and contemplative creekside experiences.

Pavilion Rentals & Picture-Perfect Picnics

For gatherings large and small, Rustic Park’s pavilion and picnic facilities stand out as one of its most celebrated features. Each pavilion comes equipped with sturdy charcoal grills, power outlets for crockpots and phone chargers, and spacious picnic tables ideal for family reunions, birthday celebrations, or corporate outings. Guests appreciate the modern conveniences—“pavilions are clean and even have outlets for charging phones and plugging in appliances”—paired with the charm of an outdoor setting. The pavilions’ thoughtful spacing ensures your group enjoys privacy without feeling secluded, striking the perfect balance between community and intimate celebration.

Family Fun & Play Zones

Rustic Park delights visitors of all ages, but it holds a special place in the hearts of families. Multiple play areas dot the landscape, each offering unique features such as slides, swings, and the park’s signature wooden train structure. Children gleefully climb aboard the rustic locomotive, while parents relax on nearby benches or explore shallow creek beds with their little ones. With plenty of open grass for tag, frisbee, or a casual picnic, Rustiс Park guarantees an afternoon of laughter and discovery. “My son loves the wooden train and my daughters like that they can skip rocks,” one parent shared, capturing the park’s magic for young adventurers.

Spacious Grounds & Comfortable Crowding

Unlike many urban and suburban parks, Rustic Park’s generous footprint along Hay Creek means overcrowding is rare, even on busy weekends. Wide-open meadows, extensive trails, and well-spaced amenities provide guests with room to roam, unwind, and engage in activities without feeling cramped. Visitors frequently commend the park’s ability to accommodate large groups while preserving that sense of natural intimacy—“such a pretty little park with nice clean pavilions and never too crowded.”

Amenities & Accessibility

Rustic Park prides itself on offering practical conveniences alongside its natural allure. Ample parking near trailheads and picnic areas ensures you won’t have to trek long distances with equipment or coolers. While most facilities, including restrooms, remain clean and well-maintained, guests should note that restrooms are locked unless a pavilion is rented. This measure helps keep the grounds secure and tidy, although some visitors have expressed frustration at not having 24/7 access. Planning ahead—either by reserving a pavilion or confirming restroom availability—will help ensure a seamless visit.
