What the map labels Union Township Recreation Area is Union Meadows Park, the township park on Campbell Ford Road in Douglassville, off Route 724 behind the Fork-n-Ale. The township lists it in two parts, East and West. Together they hold a 1.6-mile walking trail, vernal pond and river trails, youth baseball and multi-use fields, a boat ramp, a pavilion, a playground, and natural areas. The township publishes a bird checklist for the East side.

The park is also a trailhead on the Schuylkill River Trail. Schuylkill River Greenways lists it with a lighted parking area, two flush toilets, picnic areas, a water trail landing, and the Union Meadows Loop Trail. The Schuylkill River Trail runs through the township alongside Route 724, and the Hopewell Big Woods Horse-Shoe Trail connects from it toward Crusher Road.

We use it for walks and bike rides on the loop and river trails, launching a canoe or kayak on the Schuylkill, ballgames, and the playground. The township's Parks and Recreation Board holds events here, including a Halloween Fest each October.

Navigational Tips & Trail Signage
