Erth's Dinosaur Zoo brings a cast of life sized dinosaur puppets to the Santander Performing Arts Center stage, where they move, breathe and look around like living animals rather than props. The show comes from Erth Visual and Physical, an Australian company whose creatures were designed with guidance from paleontologists, so what you see on stage reflects current thinking about how these animals looked and behaved.
A host leads the tour, introducing each creature as it is brought out by its handlers and sharing what scientists have pieced together about it. Young audience members are invited up to help along the way, and that hands on moment is a big part of why the show connects with kids. Insects and smaller prehistoric creatures share the stage with the giants, and questions and reactions from the seats are part of the fun.
Doors open at 1:00 PM ahead of the 2:00 PM performance. It is a natural pick for families with a dinosaur fan at home, and the puppetry craft tends to hold the attention of the grown ups just as firmly.
