About the event
Penn Avenue turns into an open-air gallery of ice when the Ice 'N Spice Festival returns to West Reading. Carvers work blocks of ice into sculptures that line the sidewalks and storefronts, and visitors stroll the length of the business district to see each piece up close. It is a walkable, browse-at-your-own-pace kind of day, with shops and restaurants open along the route.
The spice half of the name points to the food. Local eateries lean into the season with warm dishes and bold flavors, giving you plenty of reasons to step indoors between stops. Bring layers, comfortable shoes, and a camera, since the sculptures photograph beautifully in winter light.
Admission is free and the festival is set up for all ages, making it an easy outing for families, couples, and anyone looking to get out of the house in late January. Exact dates and the schedule of activities are still being confirmed, so check with the borough closer to the event for details.
