Period Products at School From VOiCEup Berks
VOiCEup Berks runs "Girls Supporting Girls. Period.", a Youth Volunteer Corps project started in 2018 by a youth leadership group in Reading that works to make period products affordable, safe and available to people who need them, especially in shelters, schools and prisons.
Students get products through Period Ambassadors. With the consent of their school's administrators, Period Ambassadors carry small bags of menstrual products, supplied by Youth Volunteer Corps, and can give them to anyone who finds themselves in need of period products during school. Ambassadors wear pins that show their commitment to ending period poverty, and the pin also makes the Ambassador visible to girls who may need help. So at a participating school, the way to get products is to find a student wearing the pin. The page does not list which schools take part, how much a person can receive at one time, or whether there is any charge.
The project also collects menstrual products for girls and women in local shelters. If you or your group wants to hold a period supply drive, VOiCEup Berks can help distribute the products you collect to organizations in need locally; email info@voiceupberks.org. The Alliance for Period Supplies has a toolkit for launching a drive at allianceforperiodsupplies.org.
A student who wants to carry products for classmates at their own school can email ambassador@voiceupberks.org to join the Period Ambassador program.
No pickup location is listed for people who need products: products reach people through ambassadors inside participating schools and through donated supplies passed on to local organizations. For general questions, VOiCEup Berks can be reached at 484-706-9364 or info@voiceupberks.org.
The page also points to a pamphlet, "Period Talk What Girls Need to Know", with information about menstrual cycles, pads and tampons, and to a national petition to end period poverty.
