Monthly State Pension for Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans

To qualify, you must have been a resident of Pennsylvania upon entering the military, have received an Honorable or Under Honorable Conditions discharge, and have suffered a service-connected injury or incurred a disease resulting in the loss or loss of use of two or more extremities, meaning arms or hands or legs or feet. You must also have at least a 40% disability compensation rating or higher in each limb, as determined and certified by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

Veterans interested in applying should contact the County Director of Veterans Affairs in the county where they live, so Berks County veterans start with the Berks County director. Having the proper documentation ready helps the application process go quickly and smoothly.

The documents you should have are: - A copy of last military service DD214 - Proof of Pennsylvania residency upon entering the military - A United States Department of Veterans Affairs Decision letter

The pension is set in law at 51 Pa Consolidated Statutes Chapter 77. The program page still cites 43 Pa Code Chapter 5 as the regulation, but DMVA published the final-form regulation for State Veterans' Benefits on October 24, 2026, which deletes former Chapter 5 of Title 43 and replaces it with a new Chapter 5a that became effective on publication. Because the two DMVA pages differ on which rules are printed, ask your county director which current rules and forms apply to your application.
