Blind Veterans Pension of $150 a Month From Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) runs the Blind Veterans Pension, which pays eligible veterans a monthly pension of $150 when a service-connected injury or disease caused the loss of their vision.
To qualify you must have been a resident of Pennsylvania upon entering the military and have received an Honorable or Under Honorable Conditions discharge. The vision loss must come from a service-connected injury or a disease you incurred, and your visual acuity with correcting lens must be 3/60 or 10/200 or equivalent, or less normal vision in the better eye. You also qualify if the widest diameter of the visual field of the better eye has contracted to an angular distance of not greater than 20 degrees.
The benefit is $150 each month. The page does not say when payments begin after you apply or how long they continue, and it does not list any charge to apply.

One thing to know about the rules: the program page cites the statute at 51 Pa Consolidated Statutes Chapter 77 and regulations at 43 Pa Code Chapter 5, but DMVA published a final-form regulation for State Veterans' Benefits on October 24, 2026 that deletes former Chapter 5 of Title 43 and replaces it with a new Chapter 5a, effective on publication. New application forms for the state veterans' benefits programs were posted at the same time, so use the current forms and ask the County Director of Veterans Affairs if you are unsure which version to file.
