Working Toward Change Case Management for Berks County Jail Reentry
Connections Work runs Working Toward Change (WTC), which provides case management both pre- and post-release from the Berks County Jail System (BCJS).
It is for people who are in or leaving the Berks County Jail System. The page does not give other eligibility rules, such as income or age, so ask when you get in touch.
Before release, a WTC case manager completes a thorough assessment with you to help prioritize targets for change. You and your case manager work together to develop a release plan, set goals and objectives, and identify the resources needed to achieve them.
After release, you keep working with your case manager on immediate needs such as housing, ID, food, clothing, and medication. You also complete an employment curriculum that includes resume building, interviewing skills, proper job search, completing applications, financial literacy, and job retention. All participants have access to the Computer Based Learning Center (CBLC) as well as employment opportunities cultivated by the Employment Development Specialist. Case management services continue for one year after release from BCJS.
For more information about the WTC program, you can email referral@connectionswork.org. Connections Work's general contact is 484.260.3860, and the office address is 19 N. 6th St, 4th Floor, Reading, PA 19601.
The page does not say how a person signs up for WTC, whether jail staff make the referral, what it costs, or what the office hours are, so ask about those when you get in touch. The page also does not say that you can walk in for this particular program.
