Free and Reduced Price School Meals for Exeter Township Students
Exeter Township School District's Food Services department signs children up for free or reduced-price breakfasts and lunches through the federal school meal programs. The Food Services team serves nearly half a million breakfasts, lunches and snacks each year to students and staff throughout the district, prepared following the district Wellness Policy, USDA guidelines and federal and state requirements.
The Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch Programs are for low-income families and follow the National Breakfast and Lunch Program guidelines. Whether your children qualify depends on household size and total household income. Household size counts all people, related or unrelated, including parents, children and grandparents who live in your home and share living expenses. Total household income is what each household member received last month before taxes, including wages, social security, pension, unemployment, welfare, child support, alimony and any other cash income. Foster children are automatically eligible for free meals; no application is needed for them, but a state or local entity familiar with the child's status must document that status, and a foster child may also be counted in your household size on a family application. The income limits themselves are not printed.
File one application per household, not one per child. A parent or guardian must complete an application every year after July 1, and you may apply at any time if your income changes. Families who received a Direct Certification Letter for the 2024-2025 school year from the Food Service Director did not need to reapply that year; the page does not say how that rule applies to the current school year, so ask Food Services if you have received such a letter.
There are three ways to apply:
- Online at schoolcafe.com, which the district encourages because it speeds up approval. Create an account or sign in, and your application goes directly to the Food Service Director. You get a custom Pin number to enter, a confirmation that the application was received, and a letter by mail with the results.
- On paper, using the Free and Reduced Meal Application posted on the Food Services website at schoolnutritionandfitness.com, which also has a Spanish application, an instruction guide, a Spanish instruction guide and a letter to households. Return the completed form to any school office.
- By mail to Exeter Township School District, Attention: Food Services, 200 Elm Street, Reading, PA 19606.
Paper applications are also available from the main office at each school or through the district's Food Service office. The information you give is used to decide your child's eligibility and may also be used for other state or federally funded school benefits.
