Healthy Sprouts Fresh Food Bags for Reading Children From Helping Harvest
Healthy Sprouts is a program of Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank that gives a bag of fresh foods to children in need in the City of Reading. It was first piloted in March 2010 under the name Produce 4 Kids, and more than 1 million pounds of fruits, vegetables and dairy items have been handed out since it began.
The page gives few details about this program. It does not say how a child or family signs up, where or when the bags are given out, whether a school or agency has to refer you, or what it costs, so ask when you call.
Helping Harvest can be reached at 610-926-5802, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is at 117 Morgan Drive, Reading, PA 19608.
Helping Harvest runs two other programs for children that may come up when you call: the Weekender Program, which sends a bag of healthy, non-perishable food home on Fridays with students who are food insecure, and the School Pantry Program, started in 2024 for middle and high school students and their families, which lets students pick out food for themselves at school.
