Help Paying a Reading Hospital Bill
Reading Hospital offers financial assistance to patients who do not have an equal ability to pay for their medical services. Financial counselors explain what resources are available and help patients and families through the financial assistance application and approval process, so that people can still get the care they need.
Three groups are listed as eligible: patients needing medical services who are unable to pay, patients visiting from out of the country and needing emergency services, and patients whose household income determines needs for financial assistance. The page does not print an income limit, so ask what your household would need to earn to qualify.
If you do not have insurance coverage, one of the hospital's patient financial service representatives will speak with you. They work with patients who are uninsured or underinsured to determine whether you are eligible for state medical assistance or other financial assistance, and they will help you apply for it. If you do not qualify for medical assistance, a financial counselor will talk with you about a partial payment and arranging a payment plan to meet your financial obligation for your care.
To apply, download and print the Patient Application for Financial Assistance from the financial assistance page at towerhealth.org. It is a paper form to print and fill out. The application, a plain language summary and the full financial assistance policy are each posted in English, Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Creole, Portuguese and Vietnamese. All Tower Health Medical Group (employed) providers participate in Tower Health's financial assistance program. The page does not say where to send or drop off the completed form, so ask when you call.
Apply as early as you can. The sooner Reading Hospital is aware of your needs, the greater the chance of finding assistance or insurance programs to help you.
If financial assistance is not approved, letters in English and Spanish will be sent describing the reasons for the decision, as well as information on other payment options. If you wish to appeal, that process is provided with your letter.
