Help Finding Services for Older Adults and People With Disabilities
PA Link to Aging and Disability Resources, run by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, helps people with disabilities and older adults find information and connect to support and services in their community. It is Pennsylvania's Aging and Disability Resource Center, part of a nationwide effort to take a seamless approach in the way seniors and adults with disabilities who need help with activities of daily living are assisted.
PA Link works through partner agencies across the state, so an older adult or a person with a disability anywhere in Berks County, or a family member helping one, can use it.
Staff can do four things for you:
- Connect you to local help, linking you to local services and support through any PA Link partner agency.
- Look at available options to make sure you have a good plan for staying independent.
- Help you fill out forms to see if you qualify for funding.
- Help you stay in or move back to your community if you have a disability, illness, accident, or need to leave a care facility.
There is no charge for information and assistance provided by any PA Link or PA Link partner agency.
To reach staff, call the PA Link to Aging and Disability Resource Center toll-free helpline at 800-753-8827. The hours the helpline is answered are not listed. You can also request aging and disability resources through PA Link online at pa.gov/services/aging/request-aging-and-disability-resources-through-pa-link.
To start on your own, consumers and family members can use the Home Care Directory to find organizations that offer in-home services and support. You can look for specific services like personal care, help with daily activities, companionship, short-term care, and skill-building, and you can filter your search by county to find agencies in your local area.
PA Link can point you toward many kinds of help across Pennsylvania, including abuse prevention, advocacy, behavioral health, employment, finances, health care, housing, in-home services, legal help, meals, support groups and transportation. Options include both private pay and publicly funded programs, so what you are referred to is not always free.
For reports of harm, three numbers are listed: call 1-800-932-0313 to report child abuse, 1-800-490-8505 to report abuse of an older adult or person with a disability, and 911 if you are in immediate danger.
