Help Finding a Food Pantry Near You From Helping Harvest

Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank has staff who will guide you to food assistance in your local community if you are not sure where to go for help. The food bank works with more than 350 charitable food program partners throughout Berks and Schuylkill counties, and staff will help you find the help you need close to home.

To be guided to food assistance near you, call 610-926-5802 x206. You can also use the Food Map on the food bank's site, at helpingharvest.org/food-map, to find a nearby pantry or mobile market yourself.

Whether you are income eligible for food assistance is decided by income guidelines, which the page points to rather than printing, so ask about your household when you call. The page does not say whether there is any cost for this help, so ask about that too.

If you are 60 years of age or older, Helping Harvest also has a Senior Food Box Program with its own income guidelines. If you are income eligible, call Lori Lowery, Helping Harvest's Senior Services Manager, at 610-926-5802 ext. 203 or email LLowery@HelpingHarvest.org to ask about receiving an application. Helping Harvest is allotted a specific amount of boxes to distribute monthly, the program typically has a wait list, and it may take several months after you complete the application until you begin receiving a box.

Helping Harvest also assists residents of Berks and Schuylkill counties in applying for SNAP benefits, often called food stamps. Applications can be completed over the phone or in person, based on individual needs. The SNAP Outreach Coordinator walks individuals and families through the application process step by step and provides follow up after submission. For help enrolling, call the SNAP Outreach Coordinator at 610-926-5802 ext. 214 or email Snap@HelpingHarvest.org. SNAP has its own income guidelines, which the page points to rather than printing.

If your household already receives SNAP and you have questions about an open case or need to report a change, call the statewide customer service center at 1-877-395-8930.
