Free DAV Van Rides to VA Appointments for Berks County Veterans
VA Lebanon Healthcare System's DAV Transport Service provides free, volunteer-based transportation for eligible Veterans traveling to their medical appointments. It is one of the options under the Veterans Transportation Program, which arranges transportation based on medical need, mobility limitations, and beneficiary travel eligibility.
The rides are for ambulatory passengers only, meaning people who can board and exit the van without the driver's help. If you need another person, such as a caregiver, to ride with you, you must get authorization from your VA attending physician or VA-certified nurse practitioner.

Passengers follow guidelines set by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the DAV National Headquarters:
- Be dressed and ready to leave at the time you are given. Drivers can't wait for Veterans who aren't ready.
- Wear a seatbelt at all times. Any passenger who refuses is denied transportation.
- Bring only items you can hold on your lap or store under the seat.
- No smoking, chewing tobacco, alcohol, foul language, weapons, drugs or any illegal substance on the van.
- Do not ask the driver for side trips. The driver may stop only for rest stops, emergencies, and to pick up and drop off passengers.
- Do not do anything to distract the driver.
Drivers are not required to transport a Veteran who is intoxicated, abusive, or who poses a threat to the driver or other passengers. The DAV van is not an emergency vehicle, and the driver may refuse to transport anyone who appears too ill to ride. Veterans being discharged or granted passes can ride back to the van's home county only if space is available, and they must be ready to leave when the van leaves the VA medical center.
One trade-off to know: Veterans who use the DAV Transportation Network will not be eligible to receive reimbursement for travel expenses.
