To get care, contact the medical center to schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment. Some clinics are by appointment only and some require a referral; if a referral is required, you will need to contact your primary care provider first. Addiction and substance use care, blind and low vision rehabilitation, caregiver support, dental care, HIV and hepatitis care, and homeless Veteran care do not require a referral. Cancer care, cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, gynecology, hematology and oncology, infectious disease, and laboratory and pathology do require one. In an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest VA or non-VA emergency department. The emergency room is in Building 101 and keeps the same hours as the facility, 24 hours a day, every day, for life-threatening illnesses and injuries and for mental health conditions. You do not need an appointment for an emergency.
Facility hours are listed as 24/7 seven days a week, but hours vary for different services, so check the clinic you need. The lobby entrance is open 7 days a week, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and patients are in Building 1. After hours, you must enter through the Emergency Room entrance. Parking is free, and the campus has wheelchairs upon arrival for patients who need them to access the building.
If you need a ride, the Veterans Transportation Program arranges options based on medical need, mobility limitations, and beneficiary travel eligibility. Disabled American Veterans vans give free, volunteer-based rides to medical appointments; call 717-272-6621, ext.6022. A free shuttle runs from Lebanon VAMC to Philadelphia VAMC Monday through Friday, except holidays. Scheduled Veterans report to the Lebanon VAMC Emergency Department entrance at 6:45 a.m., the shuttle departs promptly at 7 a.m., and the return shuttle leaves Philadelphia no later than Noon. Wheelchair van or ambulance level transport is available when clinically justified by a VA provider; call 717-272-6621, ext.5767. Uber Health Connect door to door rides are available if you meet beneficiary travel eligibility criteria and can safely ambulate in and out of a vehicle; call 717-272-6621, ext.6022. Beneficiary travel benefits include round-trip transportation from your home to the medical center, mileage reimbursement, or special mode transport.
When you are admitted, you can request or decline visits by a VA chaplain, and the interfaith chapel is open to anyone at any time for quiet meditation and reflection. The Patriot Cafe in Building 17, first floor, serves hot and cold entrees, beverages and desserts Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is closed weekends and holidays.
If someone you know is a patient here, general visiting has no restrictions unless it is determined to be medically inappropriate, but a patient may receive no more than two visitors at a time. Do not bring food or beverages to a patient without authorization from unit physicians or nurses. Children under 14 may visit inpatients when accompanied by a parent or guardian after prior approval from the unit Nurse Manager. Visitors with cold or flu symptoms should postpone the visit, and visitors are not permitted to stay overnight in the medical center.
