Counseling, Mentorship and Rehabilitation Hunts for Wounded Veterans
Keystone Warriors, a nonprofit based in Eastern Pennsylvania, connects post-9/11 wounded veterans with counseling and mentorship and helps them stay active through rehabilitation hunts and specialized physical training.
For mental health support, the organization works either through veterans' counseling centers or by matching a warrior with another warrior who has gone through similar experiences. To keep warriors active, it partners with sponsors including the SCI Lehigh Valley Chapter, The Independence Fund, Corps Fitness in Wyomissing, and other local gyms to provide rehabilitation hunts, specialized physical training, and goal setting.
The organization honors the men and women of all branches of the United States Military, and focuses specifically on those wounded on or after September 11, 2001. Its programs and services are for veterans and their families located within Pennsylvania or for those who have ties to Pennsylvania.
Keystone Warriors was founded in 2009 by Marine Major Sam Johnson and Paul Spurgin, and its mission is to honor, empower, aid, and assist post-9/11 wounded warriors. Alongside counseling and fitness, it also provides emergency financial assistance for expenses such as utilities, rent, transportation and medical bills, paid directly to landlords, vendors and creditors, as well as financial counseling and gift cards for groceries, toiletries, clothing and other necessary items. That direct-payment financial help is limited to what the organization calls qualified veterans: servicemen and women wounded in service on or since 9/11 with a VA rating and a better than honorable discharge.
