Veteran and Family Burial at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery
Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville buries eligible veterans, their spouses and certain dependent children, and it has space available to accommodate casketed and cremated remains.
Burial in a VA national cemetery is open to all members of the armed forces who have met a minimum active duty service requirement and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. A veteran's spouse, widow or widower, minor dependent children, and under certain conditions unmarried adult children with disabilities may also be eligible for burial. Eligible spouses and children may be buried even if they predecease the veteran. Members of the reserve components of the armed forces who die while on active duty or while on training duty, or who were eligible for retired pay, may also be eligible.
To schedule a burial, fax all discharge documentation to the National Cemetery Scheduling Office at 1-866-900-6417 and follow up with a phone call to 1-800-535-1117.
You can also plan ahead. Planning ahead for a veteran's or loved one's final resting place can eliminate unnecessary delays and reduce stress on a family at a difficult time. You can request eligibility status in advance for a veteran or servicemember, a spouse, or a dependent family member, and apply online for pre-need burial eligibility at va.gov/burials-and-memorials/pre-need/form-10007-apply-for-eligibility/introduction.
The cemetery is at 60 Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17003, and the phone number for the cemetery office is 717-865-5254. Visitation hours are daily from dawn to dusk. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed federal holidays except Memorial Day. VA will continue its practice of honoring special requests for weekend burials for religious purposes, in cases of service members killed in action, and on at least one day of any three-day federal holiday weekend at all open VA national cemeteries.
The cemetery is located 25 miles northeast of the Harrisburg International Airport. From the airport, travel Interstate 283 North to Interstate 83 North to Interstate 81 North and take exit 85B; bear right off the exit and the cemetery entrance is a quarter mile on the right. There is a kiosk on site.
A few things to know before you visit. A golf cart is available, weather and ground conditions permitting, to physically challenged visitors needing assistance to gravesites during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Fresh cut flowers may be placed on graves at any time and are removed when they become unsightly. Artificial flowers are permitted only from November 15 through March 1. Christmas wreaths, grave blankets and other seasonal adornments may be placed from December 1 through January 9 and are removed on January 10. Permanent plantings, statues, vigil lights, breakable objects, Christmas trees, balloons and pumpkins are not permitted on the graves, and floral items may not be secured to headstones or markers. Firearms, explosives and other dangerous or deadly weapons are prohibited on VA property except for official purposes such as military funeral honors. A Memorial Day Ceremony occurs in May and a Veterans Day Ceremony occurs on the Sunday before Veterans Day at 2:00 p.m., rain or shine.
