A sensory-friendly dance class at Yocum Institute for Arts Education for dancers ages 8 to 14, built around a structured and supportive setting where each student can work at their own pace. Through music, movement and creative expression, students build confidence, coordination, body awareness and social skills.
Every class follows the same routine: a circle time warm-up, movement activities across the floor, and a simple dance combination that encourages memory, sequencing and self-expression. Mr. Tom adapts instruction with visual supports, modeling, repetition and sensory-friendly strategies to fit each dancer. Along the way students practice turn-taking, following directions and taking part as a group.
No prior dance experience is needed, just a willingness to move, explore and have fun. The class meets Friday afternoons from 4 PM to 5 PM. You can sign up through the registration page on the Yocum Institute website.
