If you want to cut your own Christmas tree in Berks County, plan on the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 27: that's opening day at most of the farms, and the first weekend is the busy one. Lenhart's in Mertztown, Plow Farms in Plowville and Beck in Hamburg have posted their season; DeLong in Sinking Spring has posted November 21; Geissler in Bernville and Leesport still showed last season's on November 4. The farms in Berks County page lists the county's farms with a town filter, several of the tree farms among them.

  • Lenhart's Tree Farm: walk the fields and pick a tagged tree the farm cuts, $13 a foot plus tax, opens November 27 at 10 a.m.
  • Plow Farms: free wagon rides out to the fields, opens November 27 at 9.
  • Beck Tree Farms: mainly Fraser fir, free cart and saw, about 120 precut trees, opens November 27 at 9.
  • DeLong Christmas Tree Farm: Fraser and Douglas fir, Korean and Canaan fir with the roots balled, dogs welcome, opens November 21.
  • Geissler Tree Farms: cut your own in Bernville, a precut lot in Leesport, trees over 14 feet.

This isn't a ranking. The five farms below are the ones whose own websites say what they sell, four of them with this season's opening day, and nobody paid for a spot; the rest of the county's tree farms are in the list near the end, with a note to call first.

Here are the five side by side, with opening day and hours as each farm posts them.

Geissler Tree Farms, Leesport and Bernville Last year's pattern: cut your own on Black Friday and the first three weekends at the Bernville field, last wagon at 4:15; the precut lot and gift shop in Leesport open daily from Black Friday into the third week of December Cut your own at 91 S Garfield Rd in Bernville, precut trees at 1051 Cross Keys Rd in Leesport, trees over 14 feet

Opening days and hours are as each farm's own website posted them on November 4, 2026. Geissler's row carries last season's dates and had nothing posted for this season on that day; DeLong's opening day is from the post on its site's photo feed, and its hours are the ones its site still carries from last season.

Three of the five open on November 27, DeLong opens six days earlier, on November 21, and Geissler still carried last season's dates on November 4. The sections below say what each farm does once you're there.

How the tree season works in Berks County.

Cutting your own means you walk the field, pick a standing tree and cut it with the farm's saw. Back at the barn, Lenhart's and Beck shake the loose needles out, bale the tree (wrap it in netting so it rides home) and drill the trunk for a pin stand, the kind of stand with a center spike that fits the hole, all at no charge; ask the other farms what they do.

A precut lot sells trees already cut and standing in rows. If you'd rather skip the field, Lenhart's and Beck keep precut trees behind the barn, and Geissler's lot in Leesport is all precut. In the list near the end, Starlyte in Douglassville and Freymoyer's farm in Hamburg and its Wyomissing lot sell precut trees too. A ball-and-burlap tree is the third option: a living tree with its roots wrapped, which you plant after Christmas.

One farm, Lenhart's, posts a price, by the foot; the figures are in its section. Beck and the other farms price at the farm, so ask when you arrive; at Beck a colored tree (purple, blue, teal, pink, white or black) is $22 extra.

Farms here can sell out before Christmas. On opening day in 2023, Beck's owner told WFMZ it was the farm's busiest opening day ever, after a 2022 season that ended in ten days, and that customers had learned to come early. The first weekend is the safe bet, and later in the season a call ahead tells you who still has trees.

Lenhart's Tree Farm, tagged trees by the foot in Mertztown.

Lenhart's, at 25 Carls Hill Road in Mertztown, is in its fiftieth year of Christmas trees. It opens Friday, November 27 at 10 a.m. and then runs Wednesday to Sunday, 10 to 5. Eight species are in the field: Fraser, Douglas, Concolor and Canaan fir, blue and Norway spruce, and white and Austrian pine, in sizes from 5 to 11 feet.

You walk the fields and choose your tree, and the farm cuts it: a cut tree is $13 a foot plus tax as of 2026, with the ones 10 feet and over priced slightly higher, and a dug ball-and-burlap tree, up to 7 feet, is $22 a foot plus tax. Every tree for sale carries the farm's tag with its type, height and total cost. The farm no longer lets customers mark a tree to reserve it before opening day, so ask the other farms whether they do. Leave your saw at home, since personal saws aren't permitted on the property, and the shaking, drilling and wrapping are free.

There's a selection of the farm's own precut trees behind the barn, and the farm takes cash, check, credit, debit and Apple Pay. The wreath shop takes phone orders from November 15 for wreaths, swags, roping and kissing balls.

Plow Farms, free wagon rides to the trees in Plowville.

Plow Farms sits at 4410 Morgantown Road in Plowville, in Robeson Township, with a Mohnton address. Opening day is Friday, November 27, 9 to 5, and after that the farm runs weekdays 12 to 7 and weekends 9 to 5 through December, so a weeknight tree after work is on the table.

You pay for the tree, and for anything you buy from the gift shop of farm-made goods, the handmade wreaths from the farm's own greens, or the local food and maker vendors. The wagon ride out to the fields, where you find a tree and cut it or take a fresh-cut one, costs nothing, and so does Santa's Shed, a visit with Santa right on the farm. Trees are priced at the farm, and the farm's page gives no days for Santa, so ask when you call. Newfoundland Day, the farm's gathering of Newfoundland dogs, is Saturday, December 12.

Beck Tree Farms, Fraser firs and free hot chocolate in Hamburg.

Beck Tree Farms is at 48 BeckTree Road in Hamburg, in Richmond Township, about 15 minutes from Fleetwood, Kutztown, Blandon and Leesport and 30 from Reading. It opens Friday, November 27 at 9 a.m., then weekends 9 to 5 and weekdays 11 to 5, closed Tuesdays, and it stays open in all weather short of freezing rain or six inches of snow.

The farm grows mainly Fraser fir; its tallest trees run to 10 feet for Canaan fir, 9 for Fraser, about 8 for Douglas, and 8 for a limited run of blue spruce. The cart, the saw, the shaking, the baling and the drilling are all free; trees are priced at the farm, with colored trees $22 extra. About 120 precut trees stand behind the barn.

Santa is there all day on Black Friday, the Monday after Thanksgiving and every weekend. The hot chocolate is always free, there's a fire in the barn and farm animals, and dogs are welcome on a leash. A food truck comes the first four days and the second weekend.

DeLong Christmas Tree Farm, ball-and-burlap trees in Sinking Spring.

DeLong is at 776 Gouglersville Road in Sinking Spring, in Brecknock Township; the farm's own direction is to look for the big white barn. Opening day is Saturday, November 21, by a post dated November 3 in the photo feed on the farm's home page; the rest of the page still carried last season's closing notice on November 4, so check the site or call before you go. The season hours its site carries are Tuesday to Thursday from noon, Friday and Saturday from 9, Sunday 9 to 5, closed Monday, with the evening closing time given as 7 on one page of its site and 6 on another, so call before a late weeknight trip.

The field has Fraser fir, most of it 5 to 8 feet with some taller, and Douglas fir from 6 to 10 feet. If you want a tree to plant after Christmas, the Korean and Canaan firs come with the roots balled in burlap, and the farm's own pitch is to keep your Christmas tree forever. Dogs are welcome, and credit cards carry a 3 percent surcharge.

Geissler Tree Farms, cut your own in Bernville and precut in Leesport.

Geissler runs two places. Cut your own is at 91 S Garfield Road in Bernville, where a wagon takes you out to the field, and the precut trees and the gift shop are at 1051 Cross Keys Road in Leesport. Last year the field was open on Black Friday and the first three weekends after Thanksgiving, with the last wagon out at 4:15, and the Leesport lot was open every day from Black Friday into the third week of December. On November 4 the site still carried those dates and nothing for this season, so check it before you go.

Geissler is also a nursery that ships trees up and down the east coast, and its own line is that no tree is too big to handle, with a large selection over 14 feet.

More to look at.

The first four farms below come from a one-person directory of pick-your-own tree farms, whose Berks list, last updated in November 2025, says what each of them sells; the last four are what their own pages, local news and tourism pages and this site's listings carry. Call before you drive out. The county's farms are on the farms in Berks County page, with a town filter, and the farm markets in Berks County cover the farm stores and markets.

Reinhart's Christmas Tree Farm, at 326 Oak Lane in Bernville, says on its site that it is closed for 2026.

Frequently asked questions.

When do Berks tree farms open?

The Friday after Thanksgiving, November 27, with Lenhart's at 10 a.m. and Plow Farms and Beck at 9; DeLong opens earlier, on Saturday, November 21, by a post on its site's photo feed; Geissler's site still showed last season's dates on November 4, so check it before you go.

How much does a Christmas tree cost at a Berks farm?

Lenhart's posts its prices by the foot: $13 a foot plus tax for a cut tree and $22 a foot plus tax for a dug ball-and-burlap tree. Beck and the other farms price at the farm, and at Beck a colored tree is $22 extra. Lenhart's takes cash, check, credit, debit and Apple Pay, and DeLong adds a 3 percent surcharge on credit cards.

Do I need to bring my own saw?

No. Beck lends a cart and a saw free, Sigfried Home Farm in Mohnton (in the list above) provides saws, and at Lenhart's you choose the tree and the farm cuts it, with no personal saws allowed on the property. Lenhart's and Beck then shake, bale and drill the trunk for you; ask the other farms what they do. At home, make a fresh cut off the bottom and get the tree into water right away; if the farm drilled the trunk for a pin stand, take off no more than an inch so the hole still fits. Keep the stand full and check it daily. Plain water works as well as anything.

Can I bring the dog to the tree farm?

At Beck, yes, on a leash, and DeLong welcomes dogs too. Plow Farms holds Newfoundland Day, its gathering of Newfoundland dogs, on Saturday, December 12. Ask Plow Farms and the other farms about an ordinary day's dog rule when you call.

Where are the tree lightings in Berks County?

They're on the Christmas events page, the site's calendar of tree lightings, Santa visits, holiday markets, concerts and shows for the season, along with the light displays.
