For most Berks County openings, the free layer is Indeed's free posts (three a month), Pennsylvania's state job bank through PA CareerLink, and our own jobs board. The paid layer is an Indeed sponsored budget you set yourself, the board the newspaper's jobs address redirects to, at $350 to $600 per posting, or a staffing agency with a Wyomissing address. Every price below is what the provider printed on September 2, 2026, and you can post the opening on our jobs board, free before you read another word.

Here is the part that matters more than the board: the ad. We will get to the ad. First, the map.

Where Berks County job seekers look.

The phrase people in Berks type most often is "jobs in reading pa." Not the county, not your town. The city.

A search for it on September 2, 2026 brought up, in order: Indeed's Reading, PA jobs page, the City of Reading's Career Center page, ZipRecruiter, Snagajob, a box of related questions, Penske's Reading jobs page, LinkedIn, Robert Half's Reading listings, Indeed again, and Monster. "Berks county jobs" the same day led with the county's own hiring pages and the Berks County Intermediate Unit, then PA CareerLink Berks County's job seekers page, then Indeed's Berks County page. The related phrases people type are "part time," "warehouse," "remote," the hospital, the two big employers by name, and "jobs in kutztown pa."

Post where those pages send people: Indeed appears on the first page for both phrases, and PA CareerLink Berks County does for the county one. The searcher typed a town and a schedule, so the title of your ad carries the town, the schedule and the pay. The three places that work, by role.

Wages are median hourly figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for the Reading, PA area, May 2025 data. The all-occupations median there is $23.77 an hour, a yardstick when you set a range.

Servers, cooks and dishwashers.

Post on Indeed's free tier (three a month covers a server, a cook and a dishwasher), in the two Berks Facebook groups and on your own Page, and on PA CareerLink. Reading-area medians, May 2025: waiters and waitresses $14.79 an hour, restaurant cooks $17.32, dishwashers $13.30.

The tip: the nights go in the title. "Line cook, Wednesday to Sunday dinner, West Reading" tells a cook in ten seconds whether the ad is for them. The public Berks group's rules ask members not to comment on the rate a job pays, so post the rate and let it stand.

HVAC, plumbing and electrical.

Post on PA CareerLink, call the co-op coordinators at BCTC and RMCTC, and talk to Express Employment, which lists Skilled Trades among its placements. Reading-area medians, May 2025: HVAC mechanics and installers $29.68 an hour, plumbers and pipefitters $29.99, electricians $36.09.

The tip is the training money. PA CareerLink Berks County and the county Workforce Development Board describe On-the-Job Training reimbursement of at least 50% of wages while a new hire trains; Imagine Berks puts the average at $3,000 to $4,000 per employee and asks for contact at least five business days before the start date. When the phone rings at 6 a.m. because the tech in the Spring Township truck gave notice, that is the second call you make.

Sales and office.

Post a free LinkedIn job (one at a time, 14 days), post on Handshake through the four Berks colleges and on Nittany Lion Careers for entry-level roles, and talk to Robert Half or Express for admin and office placements. Reading-area medians, May 2025: wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives $31.80 an hour, retail salespersons $15.87, customer service representatives $21.40, insurance sales agents $29.62.

Commission plans go on paper before the ad goes up. Under Pennsylvania's Wage Payment and Collection Law, "wages" includes earnings determined by "commission or other method of calculation" (43 P.S. § 260.2a); wages are due on regular paydays you designate in advance, within 15 days of the pay period's end unless a written contract or trade custom says otherwise (§ 260.3); and when someone leaves, earned wages are due by the next regular payday (§ 260.5). The statute does not say when a commission counts as earned, so write that rule into the plan and hand it over at hiring, when Pennsylvania Labor & Industry's summary says you must state the rate of pay and the time and place of payment anyway.

Warehouse and drivers.

Post on Indeed, whose Reading page led the results for "jobs in reading pa" and where "warehouse jobs reading pa" is a phrase people type on its own; call Elwood Staffing (warehouse and distribution) for temporary-to-hire or Express (light industrial) for evaluation hire; and register with PA CareerLink Berks County, which runs job fairs and on-site recruiting events. Reading-area medians, May 2025: hand laborers and material movers $22.14 an hour, heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers $28.11.

The tip: the shift is the title. "Second shift" and "weekends off" are decisions a picker makes before reading the description.

What a good job posting says.

Every posting, wherever it goes, needs the same six things.

  • The pay, as a range. Pennsylvania requires you to tell a new hire the rate of pay at hiring anyway, per Labor & Industry's summary of the wage law.
  • The town, not the county. People type "reading pa" and "kutztown pa." Write West Reading, Shillington, Hamburg.
  • The schedule, in days and hours. Not "flexible."
  • What the first week looks like. Who trains them, what they touch on day one.
  • One way to apply, and who reads it.
  • A reply within a day. Our rule, not a statistic. Even a no.

Our jobs board, held to the same standard.

Our board is free. You post from your business page (if you have not got one yet, claim or add your free business page first), a person reads the posting before it appears, and applications are screened by a person and forwarded to you. No card, no budget, no per-click meter.

Now the scale, in the same terms we asked of everyone else. In the thirty days to September 2, 2026 the board index drew 59 page views from 26 visitors and individual postings drew 70 page views from 39 visitors. Small. We print it because a table that prices everyone else's reach and hides its own is not one we would trust.

What it is for: Berks-only listings, a posting that links back to your business page, a listing next to the county's larger employers. What it is not yet: a large audience. So post the opening on our jobs board, free, then post it on Indeed and PA CareerLink the same afternoon. The three together cost nothing.

Meta announced on October 13, 2025 that employers "can create a job listing on Facebook through Marketplace, your Page, or the Meta Business Suite," and its Help Center describes Jobs as "currently being tested for select people in select cities in the U.S." Open your Page in the Android or iPhone app and see whether the option appears. Either way, the two Berks employment groups exist for job posts; the public one asks for no spam and no comments on pay rates.

What does the Reading Eagle charge to post a job?

The newspaper's jobs address, jobs.readingeagle.com, redirects to findjobspanj.com, whose purchase page on September 2, 2026 listed Basic packages at $350, $400 and $500 per job and Premium at $600, each with 30 days on the board and distribution to more than 30 other sites. Print classified rates are not published.

Do I have to pay commissions after a salesperson quits?

Commissions are wages under Pennsylvania's Wage Payment and Collection Law (43 P.S. § 260.2a), and when an employee quits or is separated, earned wages are due by the next regular payday (§ 260.5). The statute does not say when a commission counts as earned; your written plan has to. Labor & Industry's summary notes that wages unpaid 30 days past payday can carry a claim for 25 percent of the amount or $500, whichever is greater.
