Every bank and credit union with an office in Berks County, grouped by where its headquarters sits, and what a local headquarters does and doesn't tell you.

Twenty-one banks keep at least one office in Berks County, and exactly one of them is headquartered here: Fleetwood Bank, over in Fleetwood. Credit unions tilt the other way. Eleven of them have an office in the county, and six of those eleven keep their head office here.

So when you scan our banks in Berks County page and see the names that show up on Penn Avenue and out along 222, most of what you're looking at belongs to companies run from other cities and other states. The sign out front doesn't tell you that, and it's one of the first things people want to know when they're looking for somewhere local to bank.

Twenty-one banks with federally insured deposits and eleven credit unions keep at least one office in the county. Sorting them by the city their headquarters sits in is the quickest way to see which names are from here and which ones came in from somewhere else.

The table is a snapshot of one moment. The dates it was built from are printed underneath it, and an office that opened or closed since then isn't on it.

Every bank and credit union with an office in Berks County, grouped by where its head office sits: in the county first, then elsewhere in Pennsylvania, then out of state. The bank rows describe the county as of September 18 2026 and the credit union rows as of June 30 2026.

Read down the headquarters column and you can see which names are from here. Six credit unions and one bank have their head office in Berks County, which is a count of head offices rather than of branches, and every other row belongs to a company run from an address outside the county. The three names with the most offices in the county, Truist with fourteen, M&T with thirteen and Tompkins Bank and Trust with twelve, are run from Charlotte, Buffalo and Ithaca.

Fleetwood Bank is the one bank run from inside the county.

Fleetwood Bank keeps its main office at 2 West Main Street in Fleetwood. It runs seven offices in Berks County, and all seven are full service offices, which means brick and mortar locations that take deposits.

That's the whole home-grown bank list for the county, one name with seven offices on it. Every other bank with an office here reports to a headquarters somewhere else.

Six credit unions keep their main office in Berks County.

The credit union side of the county reads differently. Eleven credit unions run at least one office here, and six of them have their main office in Berks: Utilities Employees Credit Union, Riverfront Federal Credit Union and Discovery Federal Credit Union, all three in Wyomissing; Pagoda Federal Credit Union and Reading Berks Employees Credit Union, both in Reading; and Berylco Employees' Credit Union in Hamburg.

Where a credit union is run from isn't the only thing that decides whether you can use it. Each one sets its own rules about who can join, so the question is also whether you're eligible to walk in. Those rules sit with each name on our credit unions page.

Headquarters and presence aren't the same thing on this side either. Diamond Credit Union runs five offices in Berks County and is headquartered in Pottstown, over in Montgomery County.

What happened to the Berks bank names that used to be on this list?

Twenty-one banks have an office in Berks County today. A separate count, of the banks ever headquartered in the county, comes to twenty, and nineteen of those twenty names carry an end date, which is the year the name stopped being its own bank. The twentieth is Fleetwood.

Those end dates spread across five decades. VIST Bank of Wyomissing ends in 2022, Bally Savings Bank in 2017, Affinity Bank of Pennsylvania in 2013, Berkshire Bank of Wyomissing in 2011, Bernville Bank in 2001, the First National Bank of Leesport in 2000, and the Kutztown National Bank in 1976.

Customers Bank carries a Berks address and a Chester County headquarters.

Customers Bank is the one that doesn't sort neatly, and anybody who lives here will spot it in the table right away. The bank's main office is in Malvern, in Chester County. The bank's own site names Malvern as its corporate headquarters and 701 Reading Avenue in West Reading as its executive offices. The holding company, Customers Bancorp, carries West Reading as its city.

All three of those are true at the same time, because they're three different things being recorded: where the bank's main office sits, where its executive offices sit, and what city the holding company lists. So the table groups Customers Bank under Malvern, because that's where the main office is, and the West Reading ties are the executive offices and the holding company's city.

Not every office on the list is a branch you can open an account in.

An office on the list isn't always a place with a counter and a line. Among the county's bank offices, three are loan production offices, which write loans and don't have a teller line, so they take no deposits. One is an administrative office, two are drive-throughs, and two are mobile or seasonal offices, one at Bernville and one at the Penn State Berks campus.

Two of the twenty-one banks, Bank of England and Flanagan State Bank, keep a loan production office here and nothing else, so they lend in Berks County without taking deposits in it. The third loan production office belongs to a bank that has branches in the county as well. It's worth knowing which kind you're looking at if you found a name on a list and went looking for a lobby.

A mailing address isn't a county line, either. Truist's Morgantown Crossings branch carries an Elverson address, and Elverson borough sits in Chester County, but the branch itself stands in Caernarvon Township, which is Berks County. Working from addresses alone, a branch like that one can look like it belongs to somebody else's county when it belongs to this one.

What the headquarters list tells you, and what it doesn't.

The list supports a short set of statements, and it's worth saying them plainly. One bank has its head office in Berks County and six credit unions do. Two banks write loans here without taking deposits here. Every other name with an office in the county is run from an address outside it.

What it doesn't carry is anything about what any of these places is like to bank with. A headquarters city isn't an account, a rate, a fee schedule, a phone menu or an app, and none of those things can be read off a list of addresses. You get those answers by asking each place directly, and they change by product and sometimes by branch, so the asking is the part nobody can do for you.

So take the list for what it is, a map of who's run from where, and then go look at the offices near you.
