Book Resort

Nestled in the heart of Lancaster, PA, Book Resort is more than just a book store—it’s a community cornerstone where book lovers, bargain hunters, and history enthusiasts converge. Operated by dedicated volunteers in partnership with the Lancaster Public Library, this vibrant bookstore offers an inviting atmosphere that celebrates the joy of reading while directly supporting community literacy programs. Whether you’re browsing for your next beach read, hunting down a rare local history volume, or simply seeking a friendly chat about your favorite author, Book Resort welcomes you with open shelves and warm smiles.

A World of Titles: Selection & Variety

Step into Book Resort and you’ll find “lots and lots of books, music and movies at very low prices,” as one happy shopper noted. Floor-to-ceiling shelves overflow with fiction and nonfiction, children’s picture books, cookbooks, graphic novels, and more. History buffs especially rave about the “excellent selection of local history books,” celebrating Lancaster’s unique past. While some reviewers wished for deeper STEM or classic literature offerings, the sheer volume of titles ensures every visit yields a new discovery. Seasonal collection rotations and themed displays keep the inventory fresh, so each trip can feel like unearthing a hidden treasure.

Unbeatable Value & Purposeful Pricing

At Book Resort, every purchase serves a dual purpose: building your personal library and supporting a vital community cause. “Wonderful selections at unbeatable prices! All for a good cause,” shared one enthusiastic customer. You’ll find paperbacks starting at just a dollar, with hardcovers and specialty titles marked at fair, transparent rates. In a few instances, shoppers have observed slightly higher tag prices compared to other library sales, but even then, funds raised go directly toward Lancaster Public Library’s programming and services. This pricing balance ensures you always get value while giving back to your community.

Organizing the Journey: Store Layout & Access

Entering Book Resort is like embarking on a well-mapped literary journey. Many visitors praise its “good selection, well organized” aisles, making it easy to navigate by genre, author, or subject. Clearly labeled sections guide you to everything from poetry to travel guides. That said, some customers hope to see more of the expansive space opened up for browsing, rather than just the smaller front section. Whether you explore every open corner or head straight for your favorite shelf, you’ll appreciate a layout designed to showcase the diverse inventory while also allowing room for special events and pop-up sales.

Volunteers Who Know Books: Staff & Service

One of Book Resort’s brightest assets is its team of friendly volunteers—many of them longtime supporters of Lancaster’s literary scene. “All of the staff are volunteers. They are very knowledgeable about the various categories offered,” raved a visitor, applauding their expertise. From unloading boxes of donations to recommending hidden gems, these dedicated book lovers go above and beyond to make your shopping experience seamless. Their welcoming smiles and genuine passion for literature foster a warm, inclusive environment where questions are encouraged and bookish conversations flow freely.

Reliable Hours & How to Plan Your Visit

While Book Resort strives for consistency, some patrons have encountered unexpected closures—especially on colder days—despite posted hours. “I called at 11:30 AM … stopped by at 1:05 … Closed. Posted is open until 2 PM,” a reviewer lamented. To avoid disappointment, we recommend calling ahead before making the trip. Regular hours are prominently displayed, and volunteers work hard to keep the store open for as many browsing hours as possible, with extended Saturday times during special sale events.

Twice-Yearly Warehouse Book Sale: The Event of the Season

Twice each year, Book Resort transforms into a bibliophile’s paradise with its renowned warehouse sale. Shoppers from across Lancaster flock to unearth incredible bargains, with carts piled high—“lots and lots of books, music and movies at very low prices,” as one reviewer put it. Whether you’re looking to build a seasonal reading stash or fill your home library, these sales offer deep discounts and an expansive selection that has been called “one of the best of its kind.” Mark your calendar: these highly anticipated events are a must for anyone seeking unbeatable deals and an enthusiastic crowd.

Community Impact: Supporting Lancaster’s Library & Beyond

Every dollar spent at Book Resort goes straight back into the Lancaster Public Library system, fueling story hours, literacy programs, and community events. “Great service to the local Lancaster library. We also donate our books here,” shared a frequent visitor, highlighting the store’s role as both a donor drop-off point and sales outlet. Whether you purchase, volunteer, or donate, you become part of a collective effort to uplift community literacy, promote lifelong learning, and keep Lancaster’s history alive for generations to come.
