The Hay Creek Apple Festival returns to Historic Joanna Furnace, where the grounds of a nineteenth century iron making village fill with craft vendors, food stands, and the smell of apples cooking over open fires. The site itself is part of the draw: stone ruins, restored buildings, and interpreters who explain how the furnace community lived and worked.
Apple butter is the centerpiece, stirred in copper kettles the traditional way, alongside apple dumplings, cider, and baked goods. Visitors can browse handmade goods from regional crafters, watch demonstrations of period trades and skills, and take in live music while wandering the property in Geigertown.
The festival runs across both days, with plenty of open space for families to spread out. Parking is by donation, and proceeds support the ongoing preservation work at the Joanna Furnace site.
