Help Paying for Drug and Alcohol Treatment in Berks County
The Council on Chemical Abuse, also called COCA, is a Berks County nonprofit that helps people sort out how to pay for drug and alcohol treatment. If your co-pay or deductible for treatment is unaffordable, COCA may be able to help you. To ask, contact the Case Management unit at COCA. The page does not say how much help is available, what it covers or who decides, so ask when you get in touch.

The cost for residential treatment varies depending upon the treatment facility. If you have private insurance, check your benefits with your insurance provider. The cost of residential treatment is covered by Medical Assistance, so if you have Medical Assistance, ask your Medical Assistance provider which treatment facilities accept it. If you are a Berks County resident and not covered by private insurance or Medical Assistance, go to the Treatment Access and Services Center for assistance with paying for residential treatment. In accordance with federal and state requirements, pregnant women are given preferences with regard to access to COCA-funded treatment services.
If you are part of Berks County's HealthChoices program, a separate organization handles your care. Community Care, a nonprofit recovery-focused behavioral health managed care organization, manages mental health and substance use disorder services for individuals in Berks County's HealthChoices program. Its substance use disorder services for adults include withdrawal management, rehabilitation, medication-assisted treatment and certified recovery specialists.
