Services and resources from the Council on Chemical Abuse are for Berks County, PA organizations and residents only. If you are outside of Berks County, call 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or use the state care provider search at apps.ddap.pa.gov/gethelpnow/CareProvider.aspx.

During the week you can also reach the Treatment Access and Services Center, known as TASC, at (610) 375-4426, where help is available 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. You are welcome to call the COCA office Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM at (610) 376-8669. The office is at 50 N. 5th Street, 5th Floor, Reading, PA 19601.

How a person enters treatment depends on insurance and on how urgently medical attention is needed. If you are a Berks County resident and not covered by private insurance or Medical Assistance, funding is available to help you pay for treatment. The page does not say what a call to the hotline costs, so ask when you call.

If you are experiencing a true medical emergency, seek help from the closest emergency room. People who arrive at an emergency room because of an overdose, or with severe withdrawal symptoms, are welcomed as part of the Warm Handoff Program. Once the person is medically stable, a certified recovery specialist (CRS) meets with them on-site at the hospital and helps them engage in treatment and recovery services. The Warm Handoff Program is offered at both Reading Hospital and Penn State Health St. Joseph, and TASC at (610) 375-4426 has more information about it.

The page does not say who answers the hotline or what happens after you call.
