Career Services for Young Adults From PA CareerLink Berks County
PA CareerLink Berks County runs a Career Services program for young adults who have finished school and want help finding a job or enrolling in more education. You work with a case manager to build a detailed career plan and get ready for work.
The Young Adult Program serves 17 to 24 year-old out-of-school residents of Berks County. Career Services in particular is for young adults who have graduated high school or any type of post-secondary education and are looking for assistance in finding work or enrolling in post-secondary education. Specific eligibility requirements apply for each program. Career Services is provided free of charge to eligible young adults.
Your career plan can include job shadowing, volunteering, interning, taking part in the part time Paid Work Experience Program, college visits, interview prep, job search, and more. Assessments and standardized tests are used to gauge your work skills. You also take WorkKeys Assessments to earn an ACT National Career Readiness Certificate, which certifies essential skills for the workplace.
The Paid Work Experience Program is available to people enrolled in Career Services. It is a part-time, temporary assignment with a local employer in the career field of your choice, paying between $10 and $15 an hour depending on the difficulty of the job, with wages paid by the program. Placements run 8 to 12 weeks, you can take part in more than one, and participants may be hired on full or part-time by their paid work employer after a successful placement.
To get started:
- Step 1: Attend the Welcome Orientation, which is held in person. Check the events calendar at careerlinkberks.com/events-calendar for up-to-date days and times. A virtual Welcome Orientation is also offered; email info@careerlinkberks.com and ask to receive the link to the presentation. After you view it, a staff member will be in contact to determine your next steps.
- Step 2: Attend the two-week Young Adult Program Orientation, typically held the first two weeks of each month, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 12 PM. Attendance each day is required.
- Step 3: If you successfully complete the two-week orientation with good attendance and performance, you will be invited to join the Career Services program. Attendance each day is required.

Public office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, and Wednesday from 10:00am to 4:30pm.
