Job Skills and Paid Work Experience for Students From Threshold
Threshold Rehabilitation Services runs Pre-Employment Transition Services, which supports students by developing their job skills through direct experience. The program has two parts. Job shadowing gives a student the chance to explore careers of interest by visiting local businesses, observing workers, experiencing work environments, and engaging with employers. Paid work experiences run 45 hours in integrated work environments, with Threshold staff supervising to build workplace skills, ensure safety, and develop employability skills.
The only rule the page states for who can take part is that the student is ages 14 through 21.
To ask about the program, email IDDServices@trsinc.org or call 610-777-7691. Threshold's offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and appointments are suggested. Threshold's mailing address is 1000 Lancaster Avenue, Reading, Pennsylvania 19607; the work experiences themselves take place at local businesses and other integrated work settings.
The page gives few other details. It does not say what the program costs, so ask when you contact Threshold. It does not describe an application or sign-up process, and it does not say whether a school or agency referral is needed, how long a student stays in the program, or how much a student is paid for the 45 hours of work experience.
