Work Ready Job Training for TANF and SNAP Recipients in Reading

The Work Ready Program at Berks Community Action Program gives people who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits life skills and basic job readiness training to prepare them for work.

You cannot sign yourself up. All individuals must be referred by the County Assistance Office (CAO). If you are not already receiving TANF or SNAP, you apply for those benefits first through the state's COMPASS system, and the County Assistance Office makes the referral from there.

Once you are in the program, you meet for case management sessions where staff assess your skill levels and the areas where you need more training. You then practice your new skills by volunteering at Berks Community Action Program and in the community. Examples of these skills include food service, housekeeping services, and retail skills, among others.
