School Help for Students Without Stable Housing From Boyertown Area School District
Boyertown Area School District helps children and youth who do not have stable housing stay in school, enroll right away, and get support such as transportation, free lunch, and help with school supplies and clothing. This is the district's Families in Transition work under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
A child or youth qualifies if they have been displaced from their home and are living somewhere that is not fixed, regular, or adequate. That includes sharing housing with others because of loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason; living in a place not meant for sleeping, such as a vehicle, park, hotel, or campground; living in a homeless or domestic violence shelter or transitional housing; living outside the home as an unaccompanied youth; or being the child of a migrant family in any of those situations.
A student can enroll in the school serving the area where the family is currently living, or stay in their school of origin, meaning the school they attended before becoming homeless or the school where they were last enrolled, when that is in the student's best interest. Enrollment can happen without the documents normally required, such as proof of residency or immunization records, while those records are being obtained.
Students in this situation have the right to keep attending their current school and receive transportation, or to enroll immediately where they are temporarily housed; to take part in all applicable school programs, including supplemental services; to receive free lunch; and to get help with school-related expenses such as supplies, clothing, and uniforms. A student living apart from a parent or legal guardian has these same rights and can also enroll without a parent or guardian, get support to stay on track for promotion and graduation, and get help with college planning and with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as an independent student, when eligible.

Staff will work with you to make sure your child gets the support and educational services they need. You can also call about a child or youth you know who may qualify. The district office is at 911 Montgomery Avenue, Boyertown PA 19512, and the main district number is 610-367-6031. The page does not give office hours.
If the district decides a student is not eligible, it must give written notice of the reason and of the right to appeal, along with a Dispute letter and a Notice of Rights / Procedural Safeguards letter explaining the appeal process. While a dispute is being decided, the student must be enrolled immediately and allowed to attend the requested school until it is resolved.
