Student Assistance Program Help for Struggling Students at Daniel Boone Schools
The Daniel Boone Area School District runs a Student Assistance Program, called SAP, a school-based team that helps families connect with school and community resources when a child is struggling. Every building in the district, from the elementary schools to the high school, has a SAP team, and its main purpose is to remove barriers to education.
The team is made up of school and community agency staff: administrators, school counselors, teachers, the school nurse, the school psychologist, the school social worker, and a SAP liaison from Caron Treatment Centers.
It is for students who are struggling inside or outside of school, and for parents who do not know how to help their child. The team does not diagnose or treat your child. Instead it gives you helpful information and helps you find services and assistance inside the school or, if needed, in the community, and you make the choices. Your child may also take part in an in-school support group.
Anyone can refer a student to SAP, and a student can go directly to the SAP team and ask for help. The team will not become involved unless it receives parent or guardian permission, and permission is also needed for a student to join a support group. Confidentiality is important to the program, and the SAP team and the school will respect and protect your and your child's privacy at all times.
