Free Breakfast and Lunch for Antietam School District Students
Antietam School District gives every one of its students one breakfast and one lunch at no cost each school day in the 2026-2027 school year.
All Antietam School District students qualify. There is no application to fill out. The district takes part in the Community Eligibility Provision, so it cannot accept lunch applications at all. It continues to be notified of Direct Certifications from the state. A prior year free or reduced status only covers the first 30 days of the 2026-2027 school year. Families may qualify for additional benefits beyond free meals at school.
At registration, every child is assigned a student ID number they keep until graduation, and each child receives a student ID badge or card. Students scan the badge or card at the cash register when they get their meals. Elementary teachers keep their students' badges during the day. Intermediate and high school students must have their ID card or ID number with them in the lunch line. Staff at the cash registers in every school building help new students.
A second meal in the same day costs money. Breakfast is $3.10 for all students and $3.10 for adults. Lunch is $5.10 for all students and $5.10 for adults. A la carte items are sold at the Intermediate and High School and are never charged to an account; they must be paid in cash or covered by money already in the student's account. If you want your child to be able to buy those extras, put money in their meal account. Deposits made at the school cost nothing to process. Online deposits go through School Cafe and carry a small processing fee, and online payments are credited to the account the same day. First time online users create an account and need the student's ID number.
To deposit at school, send cash or a check in a sealed envelope with the child's full name and the amount clearly printed on the outside, and list each name and amount separately if the envelope covers more than one student. Make checks payable to the Antietam School District Cafeteria Fund. Intermediate and senior high students put the envelope in the lockbox in their cafeteria before school or during lunch. Elementary students may not bring money into the lunch line; their sealed, labeled envelope goes in the black drop-box in the office before school.
Money left in an account stays there for the next school year. A graduating senior's balance is refunded, transferred to a sibling or donated, and you must say in writing which you want.
For a food allergy, the school nurse will only tell cafeteria staff after receiving a "Medical Plan of Care for School Food Service" form filled out by your child's healthcare provider, and an incomplete form delays it. Download the form from the district website or ask your school nurse. For a milk or dairy allergy the only substitute is soy milk, and it comes free only with a purchased lunch. Juice cannot replace milk, and bottled water is not a substitute but can be bought for an added charge.
