Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner Boxes From Friend, Inc. in Kutztown
Friend, Inc. Community Services in Kutztown hands out a turkey and a holiday dinner box each November and December so families can put a full Thanksgiving or Christmas meal on the table.
The boxes go to families enrolled in the Food Pantry. In November and December, Friend, Inc. gives a turkey and a holiday dinner box to over 300 families enrolled in the Food Pantry at its new location at 60 Bieber Alley in Kutztown. The dinner boxes themselves come from schools and churches, and donated money and GIANT gift cards let Friend, Inc. buy turkeys at a discount to hand out to clients.
The page does not say how to enroll in the Food Pantry, whether families need to sign up separately for a dinner box, or what day and time the boxes are handed out. It also does not mention any charge. The general number for Friend, Inc. is 610-683-7790 and the email is info@friendinc.org; the agency office is at 60 Bieber Alley (PO Box 12), Kutztown, PA 19530, open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and by appointment. The Northeastern Berks Food Pantry has its own number, 610-683-7791.
Keep in mind this help comes once a year, in November and December only, and most of what the holidays page describes is addressed to people who want to put together a box or donate toward turkeys. The office is the place to ask what families should expect.
Christmas Cheer, the gift program, is no longer run by Friend, Inc. The Fleetwood Area Food Pantry is taking it over this year. It will be at the same place, the old Friend building at 658 Noble Street, and will serve the same families, with gifts distributed to Friend, Inc. clients as well as other local families. Questions about Christmas Cheer go to FleetwoodChristmasCheer@gmail.com.
