Free Medicare Counseling for Seniors From Berks Encore

Berks Encore has trained PA MEDI counselors and volunteers who explain the basics of Medicare, how to enroll, how you can supplement your Medicare benefits, what Medicare coverage will cost and what financial assistance is available. The counselors review policies with Medicare clients, help them enroll for services, and assist in resolving billing problems. They do not sell Medicare products; they offer current, unbiased Medicare education so you can make an informed choice.

Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight, known as PA MEDI, offers free Medicare counseling to older Pennsylvanians. Medicare itself is health insurance for people age 65 or older. You are eligible to sign up three months before you turn 65. To qualify a person needs to be 65 years of age or disabled to 25 months, and there is no age limit for persons with end stage renal disease or ALS.

There is also a Zoom presentation on the A, B, C's and D's of Medicare covering how to enroll, how to supplement your benefits, what coverage will cost and what financial assistance may be available. It is held the 4th Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. Register by calling (610) 374-3195 ext. 208.

In 2022 Berks Encore helped 1,455 seniors save almost $294,650, helped 1,154 seniors with rent and property tax rebates, and distributed produce checks to 360 seniors.
